Top White Sox Prospects by Position: First Basemen

Featured Replies

As the week closes, we finish off the infield in this series. Here are the Top 5 First Basemen in the system.

The caveat with this group - which is probably the thinnest in the org - is that there are players at other positions who could or will move to 1B later. Collins, Burger, maybe others could all end up that way.

A pretty brutal group without Collins/Burger.  2019 will be interesting for this group.  If no one progressing, it opens C/B moving just on need.  Also, one of the easiest and cheapest positions to fill via free agency lately on a short term basis.

FWIW, I can't imagine many players at all are fully drafted and developed as 1B, so it being seemingly thin isn't the worst thing.  Thinking back, Jose Abreu was a 3B in Cuba and Paul Konerko was a catcher going up and played a lot of 3B in the minors.  There is a really good chance our future 1B isn't currently a 1B.

Underwhelming group. Vaughn would be a nice addition.

Fangraphs has Collins as the 1 first base prospect, they basically decided themselves he is not a catcher.

Same here.  If they don't draft Vaughn, they'll likely trade for another LaRoach-like first baseman after Abreu leaves.  Geez.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Eloy was the long-term solution at 1st.

The org really needs to find a way to get Sheets to tap into his power next year.  Not a good sign for the development staff that a kid with 70 grade raw power only hit six HRs playing half his games in a bandbox.

I’m of the opinion that the Sox should move Collins off of C and move him to 1B to get the bat in the ML lineup as soon as possible. I also believe that with that move, his bat will get better.

Maybe have him as the backup catcher, so he can work on his craft at ML level.
