And this is why not getting Martes in July blows. When it is known a player is getting cut if their current team can't trade them they just get cut. Why risk anything from the other 29 teams' perspect

  • He still makes me nervous to let go, though I don't want to keep him particularly. Still a bundle of talent that couldn't put it together, fantastic arm, great exit velocity numbers when he hits

Avi Garcia is the Carlos Lee of this era. Some team will give him a ton of cash and regret it. I hope it's not us.

that's an insult to el caballo and teams are way too smart these days to give a multi year deal to someone like Avi.  If he gets non tendered he'll have a hard time getting more than 1 year 6-7 million.  Can't stay healthy, and is pretty much a 2 WAR talent even 100%.

lol, our fearless leader when the deal went down:

"Garcia is a very young, five-tool player who already has spent time in the major leagues," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "Our scouts are extremely optimistic about his future and view him as a potential impact talent for many years to come."

I’d love Cutch on a two year deal.  After that point, you’re likely blocking guys.

The issue with Avi is you give him $8 million for 2019. If he plays like he did in 2017, do you then give him $100 million? $8 million is a pretty high price to pay for a flip that won't yield much return. And he really isn't a guy who has earned a long term commitment.

I think we have to accept the fact that Avi is a flawed but physically gifted guy who has a non-zero chance of putting it all together, but the odds of that happening with us are slim to none.  We’ve given him 2,500 plate appearances, it’s officially time for us to move on.
