Hmmm.  I assume there are many more moving parts to this deal.  Not sure why the M's would want EE. 

Carlos Santana is going back to Cleveland.

EE might be going to Tampa

 

PTNBL is Encarnacion, I assume?

This seems like a salary dump of Santana's 2 years 40M remaining, does it not? This could give Philly flexibility

Phillies already got out of that deal.

Indians Recieve: Carlos Santana (2 years and $35.5M left) and Jake Bauers

Mariner Recieve: Edwin Encarnacion (2 years $41.6M left) and competitive balance pick

Rays Receive: Yandy Diaz and PTNL

With that being said, I don't see the motivation from the Mariners end.  They just picked up like $6M in additional salary to flip Santana into Encarnacion. Indians and Rays don't seem to be the types that would kick in $, so there must be more going to the Mariners. 

Sounds like competitive balance pick also going to Seattle....which still doesn't seem like enough to add $6M in salary to go from one 1B to another.

I think they they think encarnacion is a better trade chip but...they just acquired him for a worse player just because he was slightly cheaper.

If that's the cost of a comp balance pick i hope we buy some, esp if we are to lose our 2nd rounders.
