Other than Matt Thornton, I've never understood the fascination with Coop

You know that picture with Coop and the four starters in Anaheim on October 16, 2005? That picture is his lifetime pass in the Reinsdorf world.

If three seasons in with capital like Sale, Q, and Eaton to trade, the Sox are still losing 100 games, it is a big deal. It shows the guys in charge have no clue. This wasn't starting from scratch. Th

Tyler Glasnow getting fixed won them that deal already. He is nasty.

A couple of us wanted to do a Glasnow for Fulmer straight up deal a couple of years back. ;)

I'm leaving work and I just logged on. How are we looking today? I'm afraid to look.

Well, Moncada hit a HR and Eloy has been hitting the ball pretty well and got one to fall.

At some point, when things that seem like low-probability events keep happening, you have to say "Wait a second, maybe our understanding of the likelihood was wrong". If we thought all of these guys were "universally lauded as great pieces" and they all systematically blow up, then somehow the way the franchise determined that they were great pieces has a systematic flaw in it.

One possibility is that it is just way, way tougher to project pitching than we think...and as a consequence, trying to base a rebuild on acquiring pitching prospects is a terrible idea. Basing the rebuild on a huge load of pitching prospects is to the letter what Rick Hahn did. It could be that basic - pitching prospects look nice, but acquiring a bunch of them could remain a path that doesn't work.

It could also be that we are just doing a terrible job in developing them, and that the fault lies somewhere with the hires of the organization. That is another potential possibility.

Finally, it could be that while those players were "universally lauded", the reason they were available is that internally teams had decided they were much riskier and that's why they were available in the first place. In that case, our organization was fooled by the "Universal lauding" and did not do effective homework on them.

Note that all of these would land blame at the same desk.

Great Post.

The lack of homework comes from the owner being cute and playing off the evaluations  outside the organization instead hiring his own competent scouts that could at least raise the awareness level by questioning/countering what these reports say.

Santana had nothing, all offense today is on Yoan.  That's about it.

Baby steps I suppose.

Santana brought his gas can to the mound I see.

For everyone wanting to fire Cooper: Which pitching coach would you hire? How would he be able to make a differenc.e

Just screaming FIRE HIM is easy.

No doubt. It's still all about the progress of the prospects and building a winning team for next year and beyond.

This year was rendered moot for winning when Kopech went down.

The Sox are going to need to spend big bucks this offseason in order for this to be a winning team next year.

2020 is shaping up to be another tank year it appears.

Do people really think that Seattle is all that good? Prior to the season in the "predict the first month" thread people were saying they were worse than us.

And people in that thread ripped me for saying between 9-21 and 12-18

2005 was a year Reinsdorf caught lightening in a bottle with the entire roster. I guess that's the only way we'll get there again with him.

I thought after that massive parade that would be enough motivation for this ownership to truly transform this organization.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

Who are you going to spend the money on? Next year's free agent class is lacking.

Would be a great time for Alonso blast.

Only time Moncada runs is for indifference.

My daily hot take:

Hopefully the Sox move on from Abreu this year. Don‘t waste ressources on a 1B who can‘t field his position and has been regressing with the bat.

Someone who actually incorporates modern pitching philosophies and methods into attacking hitters.

Maybe this is the year we get the #1 pick overall. ?

Very good chance of that happening. The Sox are currently on pace to win 48 games. They will obviously play better than that but 60 wins this year is very possible. Would 60 and 102 be enough to draft #1?

Damn Timmy. Stay hot.

Moncada is 2-4 with a homer today, batting over 1.000 OPS with a K rate of 26.1% and this thread is about how the rebuild has failed.

Okay.

This organization is a decade behind the rest of baseball in terms of scouting and analytics

No. The O's are bad.

C'mon Eloy. Hit a granny here.
