Well, you have to give Hahn credit. He's 3 for 3, on the Manny Machado "family and friends" signings; Castillo, Alonso and Jay. None of them have justified their acquisitions, or playing time. The only good thing that has come of it, is that we didn't get Manny, for that $350 million. That could have made it 4 for 4. Manny is not going to earn all of that money, at his current pace.

Thank god he didn’t go 4/4 by signing Machado. The organization can easily recover from misses on short term expiring contracts like Jay, Alonso, and Castillo but a miss on a $300M player is not something this organization can overcome. Would have stopped the rebuild dead in it’s tracks to have $30M per year tied up in a player that will be producing as an average regular during the Sox’ contention window.

My twitter feed this offseason was full of guys who think they are brilliant wringing their hands over letting Narvaez and Smith go for McCann.  So happy he is having a good season.

  • Actually no...Narvaez is gone...so he really doesn't matter.  McCann is our guy.

Absolutely, but it's $350 Million, $35 Million per year. He'll probably still have a good year, but his first 1/4 of the season, is pretty underwhelming for $35 million a year. He has 12 extra base hits and a .250 Average.

$300M/10, nevertheless, the principle is the same

Oh yes, I'm sorry. I had a "brain cramp". I was thinking that it was $350 Million. My mistake.

Is James McCann the frontrunner at this point to start at C for the AL in all star game?

Don’t think he will get the votes over a guy like Gary Sanchez but he’s currently #2 in fWAR out of AL catchers.

He needs to start the majority of games
