August 3, 20196 yr I watched most of the Boston/Tampa series which Tmapa swept this week. I am amazed at the success Tampa has had w this roster. They literally gutted their team and rebuilt at a much lower payroll ( $69Mi l). Certainly credit goes to the GM/Scouts for assembling the talent. With talk of a Montreal/Tampa split Kevin cash may be ready to move on if his contract allows. I would even check out their GM since their roster buld and minorleague system seems strong. Cash does make some wild moves and they are heavy w analytics but their roster is bargain basement form a payroll standpoint.
August 3, 20196 yr Not sure other than analytics how the Tampa mo relates to Cub. The Cub also have a more traditional mgr. You could say Tampa may copy the Milwaukee White Sox model from 68-69. A proud moment.

August 3, 20196 yr If Glasnow and Snell were both healthy they would have had a good shot at the WC...looks like near misses two consecutive years. Not so easy on fans when you do everything perfectly almost and then still have to deal with NY and Boston’s unlimited resources.

They are holding the second wild card spot right now and their run differential is the best of all teams in the wild card race.

Glasnow is out for the season and Snell might only return if they make the playoffs. Even then, he'd probably only be available as a bullpen piece. They're pretty crippled. August 3, 20196 yr They rays had huge success on the international market. They didn't even draft all that well but had so many great international prospects. The international draft will hurt them a lot because the international market can be a huge difference maker becaue you scout them so early. Int. Draft will level the playing field.

Maybe we could lure Cash with big cash to the Southside.

There are a small group who make $4-6Mil like Bochy and Francona. But the majority make between $1-2Mil. RR makes $1.2 and Cash makes $1.0. Cora won a WS and was making $800,000. I think the manager and staff affect a team's success. But we now see some FO who decide on some of the coaching staff independent of the manager. We saw that w Severson and Cooper whether they were RR's choices or not. I think w the increased use of analytics by the FO , a lot of personnel decisions are being made by them as well.
August 5, 20196 yr Managers are Not having the same impact as 20 years ago. Front offices now not only make personnel decisions but also tactical decisions. The manager now basically executes what the analytics guys tell him to do, they tell him where to position fielders in a shift, who to play against a certain pitcher, how to use the pen, how to pitch opposing hitters and such stuff. Basically the manager now needs to be a good communicator and keep the players happy, motivated and disciplined but he isn't making many important decisions anymore. It used to be feel when to bring in which pitcher but now he has a spreadsheet which tells him how to decide. Managers used to be able to outmanage the opposing manager but now they all follow an exact plan of the analytics guys (" when x happens you do this...")

This most definitely doesn’t apply to the White Sox & Renteria.
