1 in 2009. When he came back. It’s on baseball-reference if want to look at the history. Unfortunately they only have players, not coaches.

? I thought he wore 22 in 09 as well

Pods was 22.

Scotty Pods wore number 1 in 2009 according to my source.  I agree that #22 was his primary #.

I think he started with 1 for a short time, and got his 22 back from Josh Fields. Fields changed from 22 to 7.

Josh Fields, the only guy to ever strike out on 2 pitches

Adam Eaton wore #1 for the Sox not that long ago. Seems like an odd edict unless it was very recent.

Good point. Again I hope to be wrong but maybe it was just when Rose was with the Bulls? Beats me.

Why didn't I know Coop wears 99?

He should give it up for Vaughn. A baseball player named Vaughn and the number 99 go together. .

Good news for you. Coop changed back to 21 this season. Vaughn will wear 99 when he makes it up.

I do remember that. Super weird.

God, when they say the "last worn by", you realize just how bad this team has been...

And Espy Teahen has to be dead now, right?

Is there a number that's never been worn by a player on the Sox? If so I hope Madrigal wears it

I hope he wears 0 or 80. I think Beckham wore 80 in ST once

The Sox don’t assign 69 ever because they don’t want fans to get authentic jerseys with that.

I’m for players wearing what they want, but it you’re going to wear a “look at me, everyone” number like 74, 84, 88 or 99, you better be able to back it up. Lastings Milledge starting out with 85 or whatever, comes to mind.

Looks like #1 might be claimed by the coaching staff:

That means nothing. Cooper and McEwing just changed their numbers
