Foot note, as mentioned in the article:  It isn't clear if the MLB can actually punish Bauer even if the balls appear doctored as that isn't proof alone that he was the person who did it

You guys think anything comes of this?

This story is a few days old but didn't see anyone make a thread on it

I can see MLB going after him specifically for exposing this in the first place for revenge, and also coming up with this policy to discredit the lawsuit against the Angels by the clubhouse guy who made this for his players and opponents. That said, there is no expected punishment phase of this initial testing scheme.

At the same time, the league does not seem intent on disciplining literally anyone who uses substances. Rather, MLB wants to find pitchers who clearly use the substances for a large enhancement in the quality of their stuff, not just grip. If and when MLB starts issuing punishments, the commissioner’s office might also have evidence that other pitchers are using substances to less pronounced results.

Also, this is typical of MLB’s half ass garbage measures, including:

  • Half ass steroids testing, easily avoidable.
  • Halfass “investigation” into the various electronic cheating scandals of the past several years, with the only formal report issued solely to exonerate Houston ownership who by all accounts were fully aware and approving of their vast cheating conspiracy.
  • This ridiculous scheme. If a player has been cheating all along, their stat cast numbers will not deviate from past performance, and thus they will not be subject to scrutiny.
