Why does that make a difference? Think of it this way. Going back to 2019, 2 of the 10 teams who made the playoffs had sub .500 records against teams over .500. Without going over 20 years of data, I am going to guess that this a pretty typical percentage. If you want to do the work, feel free. But the point is if you have something in that range of teams with that sort of performance (20% of teams) yet 35% of the time they are winning it all, it seems to tell me that the correlation isn't as strong as you might think it is. That's a pretty big over performance of even a random outcome, let alone one that gives more weight to beating good teams in the regular season.
