I was afraid it might be a career altering injury last night. This is probably the best news considering the situation.

Physically it may not be career ending but how do you mentally recover?

  • Per Twitter, Bassitt is conscious and alert and they think his eye is OK. Got some stitches below the eye and they’re testing for fractures. Sounds like relatively good news at this point.

  • Good news considering.

  • Didn't watch the game or see the play. Happy for the Sox blowout, scared for Bassit. I said it once I'll say it again, pitchers need to start wearing helmets. Balls are coming back in excess of 1

so 7 out of the last 20 WS teams had .500 or worse records vs winning teams, not exactly a promising statistic. Maybe if it was 10/20.

Why does that make a difference?

Think of it this way. Going back to 2019, 2 of the 10 teams who made the playoffs had sub .500 records against teams over .500.

Without going over 20 years of data, I am going to guess that this a pretty typical percentage.  If you want to do the work, feel free. But the point is if you have something in that range of teams with that sort of performance (20% of teams) yet 35% of the time they are winning it all, it seems to tell me that the correlation isn't as strong as you might think it is.

That's a pretty big over performance of even a random outcome, let alone one that gives more weight to beating good teams in the regular season.
