Hendriks tipping his pitches?

Featured Replies

Ruiz was already warm. Hendriks with a back hurting was not a better option than him. Period. Extra end of statement for emphasis.

And Liam Hendriks not wanting to find out if the game is exactly why you should have a manager. That’s literally his job - to manage volatile personalities and make the right decision for the team.

The only way it isn’t a managerial mistake is if we’ve finally admitted he isn’t even bothering to manage. Which, frankly, is totally consistent with that inning.

Hendriks  is emotionally out-of-control at times on the mound. Hard to tell if he is serious or not about anything.

In the prior inning after striking out a batter Hendriks yelled some expletive starting with F.

What was the speed of the pitch that Buxton jacked?

Without  knowing the speed, it looked like a typical Hendriks high fastball, the kind that has been pasted by good fastball hitters like Buxton.

Buxton gets the credit. That was not a get me over fastball. It was the best Hendriks currently has in his arsenal. ...a fast but flattened out fastball.

Ruiz probably would not have fared better, but , as with most other quibbles with in-game decisions, hindsight is always 20/20.

I wonder if Hendriks will be available for the next game. No word on that yet.

They just didn't want to blame grandal on the bad throw to the mound. You could see the grimace lunging for the bad throw.

Distinct possibility.  Back issues can cut short the follow through and tend to make the ball stay up.

FWIW, Statcast seems to indicate that Hendriks is releasing the ball closer to home plate this year than last year (by about 0.2 feet). Maybe the cause of a back issue? Of course you can release closer to home for reasons besides the follow-through.

All of this is true. There are too many variables to pin the injury on it.

Personally I think it was just the lunge on the bad throw from grandal.

It looked like he winced on the pitch before it.
