Finding Bummer's sink

“Sinkers are very volatile,” Katz said. “The seams have to be lined up perfectly to be able to create the right movements. And the ball was shifting up, it was not creating the movement.”

I found this interesting.

Could the new ball be messing with Bummer's sinker? I've read the new balls have bigger seams which is why we've heard it has more drag.

The sinker stuff is definitely interesting, but it doesn't seem like he's giving up a ton of hard contact. Walks are absolutely killing him - maybe the lack of confidence and early contact on his sinker is causing his control issues, but his slider also has been super inconsistent.

Actually this comment from the article clears it up:

I know you’re joking, but the irony is that when he’s right, his approach is almost to just huck it over the heart of the plate and let his movement do the work

Bummer isn't a control pitcher, he's a pure stuff pitcher. His stuff isn't working.

Bummer's nibbling drives me batshit. I know it's his style but sheesh.

I don't think he knows where his stuff is going. Like the article said, he just tries to throw it down the middle and let his movement do the rest.

The ball used to sink without him even trying and now he can't get it to even when he's focusing on it.  Sooooo, the tack did all the work and now you're cooked?  Great.

There is a sad going down the drain comment to be made.
