long Term Contracts

Featured Replies

Hahn has tied up certain players with long term contracts (Robert, Moncada, and Jimenez). I can't help but wonder if Hahn  does the same thing with Vaughn and Cease. Also, Anderson has 2 more years before he becomes a free agent. Wonder if Hahn is going to extend him or replace him with Montgomery.

Just don't overdo it.  Takes away flexibility, especially if the farm starts generating good players.

I hate long term contracts but they're a fact of life in today's game, if I was an owner, 3 years would be the max.

Absolutely if you can lock up Anderson, Vaughn and Cease in a long term contract for reasonable money...do it in a heartbeat. Since our cheap demented owner doesn't want to spend money, its the only safe way for the Sox to keep good players.

Enough with the early signings. We are already looking at dead money in Eloy and Moncada if they don't turn it around.

Moncada makes 17.8 million next year and then 24.8 million in 2023 before we can exit the deal in 2024. You can't pay that much money to non difference makers. That's what he is currently and has been with the exception of 2019.

Via Fangraphs, Moncada generated 32.8M in value last season and 44.1M of value in 2019. Prorate his 2020 season over ~150 games, and he would have come in around 20M worth of value. The Sox aren't going to get better or more efficient production out of that position than sticking with Yoan. It's almost as if people forget the Sox went almost 20 years between having 4 WAR 3rd basemen.

Moncada, overall, has stunk this season which is why I said "if they don't turn it around" which he has recently but there's still a lot to go.

I don't care what fangraphs says, the White Sox cant afford to pay 15 HR's 60 RBI's and solid defense 25 million per year.

Cease will not resign because of Boras.

Anderson will be 32 during his first full FA season and has been probably fuming due to his super cheap deal and will want to get majorly paid. Makes no sense to do that given aging curves and Montgomery (assuming he sticks at SS).

Vaughn is a possibility for extension if Jose retires.

The only hope we have of seeing Cease stick around after that contract is up is if Jerry is worm food before it happens. Absolutely sucks that this organization is such a penny pincher when it comes to playing ball with the big boy teams.
