New York Mets sign Trayce Thompson to a minor league deal

Wish him luck. If he could hit for even .250, he's probably a starting major league center fielder somewhere. Sneaky power, surprisingly good defender.

Right on, I've always liked the guy, just a shame such a great fielder just can't hit, good luck to him. I'm still hoping the Sox can sign Kevin Keirmaier for right field, if he can stay healthy he would be a very good addition, the guy gives 100% and maybe some of it would rub off on some of our guys like Moncada. Right now the Sox have 2 legitimate MLB outfielders on the roster in Robert and Benintendi, they have Sheets and Colas listed on the 40 man roster, we have to do better than that.

I have no problem with Thompson but I have no idea why they Sox brought him back last year instead of calling up Victor Reyes.

Reyes not being able to field or hit could be a contributing factor.

Look at it as more of a sending the Dodgers money to help even out Lynn Kelly deal.

It is amazing he never got a shot when Colas was sent down and after Shields was terrible again and Frazier.

From what I understand he had a good offensive year in AAA. The fact that he could not get a shot with the craptacular stuff we were putting out in RF is puzzling. I do however understand that they may have brought in Thompson to spell Luis in CF though

This. They were lucky Luis Robert didn't break in half before all star week last year with how little rest they gave him. Thompson's job wasn't to be good, it was to keep Luis Robert alive.

Always glad to see Trayce's name pop up as a signing. He will have a chance to break camp with the big club. He's a good guy and in another universe with a healthier body maybe turns into an everyday regular or even all star player.
