How can he be so good at AAA and absolutely choke on every callup?

Getting to be a massive mental block at this point.   Just always seems to get off to such slow offensive starts and can never recover and bring up his numbers to decent levels.

It's going to come down to his defensive skills and stolen base/PR ability...very rare are the guys like Zobrist or Chone Figgins that can legitimately play every position on the field and also hit/run pretty well.  Jose Oquendo is more the traditional archetype.

Ha ha. Have you seen him play?  Kid can hit.

While is AA --> AAA adjustment period wasn't as long as it was the prior levels, Sosa's MO was always: Move up a level, struggle hard, figure it out and start crushing.

Pedro's coaching sucks, so he basically gets called up and never gets to work his way out of the struggle step. Then he goes down.

Look at the bigger picture.  His career MiLB ops is .791, and that's including his lightning-hot start this year.

At best, that would translate to the .725-.750 range at the major league level, but most Sox minor league followers would be likelier to expect him to be somewhere down in the mid to high 600s.  As a 3B, he would have to be close to 775-825 to be truly valuable (assuming an MLB "average" defensive ranking there).

In his first full pro season, 2023, Baldwin blossomed. His hitting and power took nice jumps, and he saw almost as much time at shortstop as he did third base (also seeing time at second, first, center field and left). His wheels on the bases led to a solid 22 steals and more importantly a 80%+ steal rate.

....

Baldwin definitely brings versatility beyond that of his pops, as not only a switch-hitter but a player who’s seen action in college at every position but pitcher and catcher. Strangely, despite never playing a game at third base for the Seahawks and just 10 over two seasons in the Cape Cod League, Baldwin is listed as a third baseman in the MLB draft tracker and by the drafting party — usually an indication that’s how the drafting team sees the player.

And that's just our GM.

Don't forget about our owner. He was reminiscing about David Eckstein when he spoke during the Getz press conference. He loves shitty players like that.

Ben Zobrist 2.0?

Zobrist has/had a LOT more pop in his bat...based on what we have seen from Baldwin's collegiate and MiLB career.

And it's a bit difficult to judge the level of competition for UNC-Asheville vs. a Power 5 conference.

Once Lenyn screwed up that rundown with the Sox I knew he was on his way back down. It has seemed at times like the MLB struggles are more than just hitting. I hope he gets another shot but I also felt it was understandable that we didn't want to see him any longer after his most recent run.

You really have not seen the player, have you?  Comparing 27 year old Ben Zobrist in the majors at 200+ lbs to 22-23 year old Brooks Baldwin who is still around 185 lbs is just crazy. A) They are very different players. B) Ben Zobrist did not develop power until the majors. Zobrist NEVER had double digit HR in the minors. Baldwin hit double digits (15) in his first full professional season. I get it. It is always smart to bet the under on every single fricking prospect from every fricking team. Half of the top 100 are gonna bust every year. Jackson Holliday is about to get sent back down.  But unlike the gamethreads that deserve the unlimited negativity they engender, in the minors forum, we like to keep it positive.  I mean, to suggest a guy hitting .460 better hope he can be a pinch runner is about as wet blanket as it gets.
