Garrett Crochet has a winning record on a team projected to lose 120 games

In 1972,  Steve Carlton won 27 games on the 59 win Phillies.

8 years later, he won 24 games on the World Champion Phillies.

  • Not at all, he was just doing the interview. Plenty of reasons to not care for Schriffen as a broadcaster, but this is kind of a lame thing to just throw out there.

What Crochet is doing this year is what I envisioned when they drafted him. Just pure filth.

Are we sure it didn't come from outside the stadium?

You know what didn't exist in 1972?

Free agency.

You know what else didn't exist?

The draft.

Not sure what your point is, but free agency started well before 1980 and the draft started before 1972.

Free agency via Curt Flood was 1976.  I was wrong on draft as it was 1965.  The point was that the game has changed a lot in 52 years, and players don't stay put like they used to because of those things.  Steve Carlton staying on a bad team for 8 years as a top flight pitcher doesn't happen today.

I lived in that part of the world in 1972 and saw many of those games on TV. What I'll never forget is how well the Phils played whenever Carlton started. But he was one great pitcher.

I always liked those mid-70s Phillies teams. But always wound up with way too many Denny Doyle baseball cards.

He’s fake though.  And disrespectful. The real problem

I don't delve that deeply into the announcers personality. I'd ask how he's fake but idc.  I just listen. It's entertainment. He's paid to do a job and be entertaining. I'm entertained.
