Mendick's deal wasn't guaranteed. Senzel has been better than Mendick, and they're paying Senzel the pro-rated minimum. 

It's not a waste of money.

It’s not really a waste of money but it could be a waste of at bats that would be better served for a guy like Colas, if Senzel ends up playing the outfield at all.  But I guess an outfield spot could open up for Colas when Pham and possibly Robert get traded.
