December 27, 20241 yr Liked him as a flip candidate since he's a name with pedigree and still just 28, but never signing anyone that expensive.

The fun end of the year review would be to see if Getz spent $15 million on several players and if they out-WAR Torres combined. But at this point, I don’t think Getz is even going to spend $15 million this offseason. I guess it might be possible if we include arbitration raise guys like Vaughn. Flip candidates almost always have to be bargain basement guys made good. By definition, FA signings go to the club willing to pay them the most money. Unless Torres magically recaptures his form from the juiced ball year, he's getting paid the max of what any team wants to pay him. The prospect cost of acquirig him at the deadline will be marginal. It's similar to a scenario where Benintendi has last year's second half in the first half of 2025. He'd get you something, but it's not gona be a top prospect.
December 27, 20241 yr This seems like a very reasonable deal for Torres. That being said, 2B is the last spot we need a flip guy at. Give the playing time to Sosa, Baldwin, Meidroth, or even Ramos. Need to get at least one second division regular out of that group.
December 27, 20241 yr "But Keith, a left-handed hitter, is taking reps at first base this offseason to expand his defensive versatility, creating internal competition for first baseman Spencer Torkelson in spring training. Although Keith has previous experience at third base, he won't play there because of injury concerns with the labrum in his right shoulder. One configuration for the 2025 Opening Day infield is Keith at first base, Torres at second base, Trey Sweeney at shortstop and Matt Vierling at third base. It's unclear if the Tigers will continue pursuing free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman. There are 90 days until Opening Day." freep.com/sports First thought was why sign him after Keith....but apparently Torkelson will be DH. Nationals wanted to sign him for 3B but has never played there before.
December 30, 20241 yr Being reported by Mlb.com that Detroit also wants Bregman Santander or HaSeong Kim in that order after Torres signing. Josh Bell for $6 million/1 year to Nats. Andrew Vaughn stans and detractors react...with mostly apathy. Edited December 30, 20241 yr by caulfield12
