I went back and watched some of what Getz said.  The whole “the players get motivated when the fans are loud” is such crap.  Provide a better product and you will get your energized fan base.

I went to this game 2 years ago where Cease started vs the Orioles. Sat by the first base dugout. Rain delayed, cold weather, so barely anybody was there (not like anyone would be there anyway). Some already drunk "Sox fan" just heckled Cease from the start until people eventually told him to shut up. Cease had to have been hearing it.

I dunno how that couldn't get in your head just a little bit even if you're a professional athlete. Supposed to be a home field advantage. It's a real thing. Tens of thousands of people supporting you has to feel good.

A better team that people show up to watch drowns out those bozos obviously.

LOL you KNOW Schriffen saw the article from Sun Times and gave us a big "SOUTH SIDE STAND UP" just now to say FU to them. Love it.

Stoney actually made him legit laugh tonight. It was a great broadcast.

He's just a baby. He'll get it together.

I think he's been way better than the 5+ era would suggest. The BABIP numbers are just super unlucky even beyond having a bad defense behind him. 13 K/9 to 4 BB/9. 0 homers allowed. Very good peripheral numbers. Bringing the walks down would be great.

Kinda like how Martin was good tonight but these little tappers kept finding holes in the infield. Better positioning could've saved a couple runs.

I think they get positioned according to the batted ball metrics. Now that depends on the pitch too and runners on base. You never know if a hitter's going to try to hit behind the runner or pull. You just play tendencies. So postioning can't ever be where you want it to be after the ball is hit.
Hopefully more data helps as he continues to pitch and refine his pitch mix and command.

what was up with the lineup tonight, no quero, no benintendi, no Sosa? they should've gotten smoked.

edit: missed all of queros ABs lol

I'm 99% sure Sosa didn't play because Thames talked about how the key to hitting against Cease was to only swing at strikes and "keep him in the zone". Consequently Cease was way out of the zone. 3 walks, 2 hit batters, 40% of his pitches were balls.

I think Danger Robertson (in place of Benny) had a good game. He's a good defender. Looks like he has a good arm. But the bat is just not good enough generally speaking to be a real option in left.

I liked that Getz talked about how the outfield is a problem despite some "ok" offensive performances from Benny/Tauch. .740/.760 OPS is just not good enough from your corners especially when they're terrible at defense. Somewhat amusingly, Steven Kwan has like 3.5 times more WAR than Benintendi in left despite being 40 points lower in OPS. I think he's a better hitter than he's shown this season and could be a realistic trade target. Still, would like some power out of the corner.

He doesn't rack up Ks, but I'm pretty fond of Martin and his ability to generally keep the team in games for 5+

This was start #24 for him and his 9th QS. It was #31 for Cease, who has 8 quality starts so far.

Martin has failed to go 5 IP only twice all year while Cease has been chased early 10 times, so even with ~6 weeks of missed time Dart still has more 5+ inning starts on the season.

Not bad at all for a 14th rounder.

I think John is an affable guy. Easy to get along with genuinely likes Stone's dry sense of humor.

He does seem like truly a nice guy and in a perfect world he would be a keeper as a broadcaster. If he’s going to stay then I hope something clicks and he makes us proud. One thing, he is better than last year.

We need 30+ homer guys in outfield corners. Beni should be the LH DH and will still get plenty of bats as there are more right handed pitchers. It will be interesting if JR gives the OK to bring on some free agents, if not then the Sox will be facing another year of losing baseball but probably avoid 100 losses. Of course we are dealing with JR so my guess is no significant free agents will be signed and it will be more of the same with 2nd and 3rd rate free agents brought aboard.
