I wrote that Sean Manaea got DFA'd which was wrong...Manoah did. Tomato, tomahto sort of thing...bad pitcher, baaaad pitcher.

The point being they're paying the guy $75mil to pitch to a 5.59 ERA. That's actual wasted money, $2mil is pretty marginal.

We have our own wasted money — Benintendi (0.9 bWAR) and Robert (1.4 bWAR).

I can't believe they are bringing Schriffen back next year. I mean, I can, because it's the white sox, but even Beckham is not really taking it anymore. He basically just said "no I am not singing the stupid Jeff Vooch jingle."

On another note, Beckham's gotten a lot better. I really like his style and analysis.

They make such a big deal about winning games now giving them confidence and momentum for next season. Last year they won 5 of their last 6.

Ending up in the 50s for victories seems like a huge disappointment.

We'll see which team wants to play in the Cellar Dwellers Bowl.

Kyle Schwarber with the quietest 56 homers ever...FA year lol.

Manaea was good last year and a part of the Mets advancing to the NLCS. Not sure I’d call that a waste.

Still a decent shot to eke out two more wins. Regardless, it’s a third consecutive 100 loss season which is god awful.

Mets were almost magical down the stretch last year.  Especially Iglesias.

Doesn't happen every single season.

Sox paid Benintendi after 2 consecutive 3 WAR seasons. It's still a waste of money. The Mets also paid Ryne Stankey $4.5mil after he pitched to a 6 ERA with them and now a 5 ERA rather than paying Vasil...$750k or whatever. That's harder to explain.

Finishing the season 1-13 will pretty much negateall the post all-star good the Sox did.

Geez, didn’t even realize they’re about to be 1-10 over their last 11. So much for all the silly talk about this being a “different” team post ASB. Still suck.

And if the Sox made it to the LCS with Beni having a 3 WAR season I wouldn’t consider it wasted money. Damn, at this point, I’d take playoffs.

same here when I watch the other teams' broadcast.

Schriffen - 120 loss season

Beckham - 101 loss season

Both are not good.  We get a constant flow of former Sox has beens.

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/andrew-benintendi/17901/stats?position=OF

He averaged 1.5 fWAR from 2019-22, look again... although 2020 results are speed due to Covid.

His NYY numbers after that deadline trade from KC really lifted him, but still just a 2 fWAR for the combined season.

Those are the free agents you get when losing is a habit.  They don't really bring anything to the table.

Some still ignore the reality that no big time free agents would be willing to play here.

depends on the website I guess. -4.5 defensive WAR seems, I dunno, a little off considering he won a GG.

bWAR maybe but most consider fWAR the better measure for position players due to the defensive focus that kills Benintendi

I dunno about that. Fangraphs gives Grandal 40 WAR and baseball-reference gives him 20 WAR. Their calculations seem dubious to me.
