almagest
https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/updated-top-100-prospects-list-for-october-2025?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage Braden Montgomery #38 Noah Schultz #40 Billy Carlson #71 Caleb Bonemer #73 Hagen Smith #88 Nice to see the system rebound a bit after graduating Quero, Teel and Colson. Hopefully Fauske can make his way into the back end of the top 100 sometime next year. I'd guess Montgomery, Schultz and Smith are possibly up next season, which means McDougal, Oppor and Lodise are next up on the Sox top 30 as potential top 100s. Not sure any of them profile well enough to make the list, though. If the Sox can draft well enough to find guys with enough potential future impact in the first three rounds, and find a few diamonds in the rough in later rounds, they should be able to build a continuously competitive MLB team. 1
southsider2k5
They need a top pick so badly. While this looks great in isolation, take the Tigers who have the #2, #8, #33, and #37 guys in this list. Cleveland has 17/58/59. These are the types of teams we are chasing. 6

Skubal is gone next year maybe even this offseason. No team in the division looks great next 2-3 years imo. If Ishbia spends some I can see 2028 as a chance to make some noise.

You have to take it in isolation, because there's nothing they can do about the other teams in the division other than spend more on quality free agents, which they're not gonna do (yet, hopefully). All they can do is continue to draft and develop well enough to keep feeding the system with impact players, so when guys wash out or leave they have replacements. I'd also love to see continued wins on the margins like finding 2-3 WAR guys in the rule 5 draft, but I don't think you can count on that.

And keeping par with Minn, Det, and Cle is happening with a very muted international presence, as of yet.

Tnetennba
5 in the top 100 is great and all, but the top prospect being #38 out of 100 isn't something I can get too excited about. The system desperately needs top end talent to go along with quality depth. 3

It would be nice to see us move up from trash tier player dev into just mediocre.

Obviously some of it was his own issues but I don't think the Sox did him any favors with their approach to his training and especially his core issues. Let's hope Colson fares better. Thread tax I really do think the farm is one of our decent points ATM as a franchise. There's good depth even if there isn't a couple top 20 overall types and depth is usually better.

I've had it impressed upon me that a key goal for a system is developing stars (of course), but also collecting and growing guys other organizations salivate over. Think Meidroth. Gamers who have one elite tool and a good baseball IQ. I suspect that's one reason why they wouldn't park Elko at 1B for a month and let him thoroughly s%*# himself with a .053 BA. Elko is the kind of guy they should be working to optimize, in my mind. He's got a ton of in game power but has pitch recognition issues/holes in his swing that prevent him from being anything in the majors. I'd have a very clear plan for him in the offseason to overhaul his swing and work on pitch recognition. It's likely to not provide any value and he's probably destined for Japan or Korea, but there's a .500 SLG guy in there if they can get him to hit even like .230.

That's worth at least an interesting arm from an unserious organization. I keep wanting to use Spencer Horwitz as an example. I think he's just a guy that Pittsburgh traded 3 pitchers for. However, one of those pitchers, Luis Ortiz, is under investigation for the Cleveland gambling scandal. What a horrible trade if he's the guy who talked Clase into selling single pitches to gamblers.
caulfield12
https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/DET/2025.shtml Tigers are going to have a tough decision financially next season. Jobe will be out for most of the year. Flaherty has an out clause, maybe that's renegotiated. Mize is their best younger guy after Skubal. Then it's Montero and a bunch of question marks. All in...or do they look to trade Skubal R.Greene Carpenter Tork if they decide to go in another direction????? With the Central as weak as it is and CLE potentially trading Kwan, Ramirez one more year into 30s...all in.

Cleveland could have traded Clase for a nice package of prospects, or if they kept him he could've been brought in during the 7th yesterday when they began to run into trouble.
FloydBannister1983
Shouldn’t every team, on average, have 3-4 players in the top 100? (Distributed uniformly, of course.) Five does not seem all that impressive, especially with none above 38.

I guess I’m not impressed with the farm system or five in the top 100. ESPN has them at 20. Out of 30. MLB.com had them at 17 at the break. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/46070464/2025-mlb-prospect-rankings-update-farm-systems-30-teams-mets-dodgers-mariners

I'm sure they'll update their rankings and the Sox will be higher than 17th. If we're just going by number of prospects in the top 100 while accounting for placement, the Sox would be fifth, behind the Mariners (8), Dodgers (7), Reds (6) and Pirates (5, including the #1 overall). The ESPN ranking was from late August and didn't include Colson due to timing issues. Looks like they're expecting upward mobility from Carlson and Fauske as well. Their list also did not include Braden Montgomery for some reason. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/43639138/2025-top-10-prospect-rankings-all-30-mlb-teams-kiley-mcdaniel#chw I think it's encouraging to see the Sox still have an above average number of T100 prospects after graduating three, but we'll see what the updated lists from ESPN, Baseball America, etc. look like in the offseason and into next season. If they can continue to replenish their top prospects after we see flame outs and graduations then we'll know we have something.

I am sure the weighting of the systems changes because of where guys rank too. If you just rawdog adding up how many people are in top 100, that equates 100 with 1 as equal. With a team like the Tigers skewing towards the front with less players, but 2 top 10s, and 4 top 40s, that could outweigh the Sox five who starts at 35 and are mostly in the backhalf. 1
