He hit .313/.429/.606 with six home runs over the first 27 games of 2026. His exit velocity data is impressive and even more so when you factor in his switch-hitting. Montgomery’s quality of contact is high from both sides of the plate, making power his carrying tool.Montgomery’s in-zone whiff rate is slightly higher than you’d like to see, though. For a power hitter with this level of quality of contact, you’re typically going to see some level of whiffs, but getting below 20% would likely unlock another gear for Montgomery. The whiff numbers are better against righthanded pitching, leading to fewer platoon concerns, as he’s better vs. the strong side. With continued performance, Montgomery could be up in Chicago within a few weeks hitting bombs alongside Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/12-mlb-prospects-posting-impressive-90th-percentile-exit-velocities-in-2026/

Wednesday at 06:52 PM3 days Author Throwing some Jacob Gonzalez BA/Fegan stuff into this thread.https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/10-mlb-prospects-who-caught-our-attention-in-may-2026-org-reports/ https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/new-swing-mechanics-help-white-soxs-jacob-gonzalez-access-power/ (10) The White Sox used the 15th pick in 2023 to draft Mississippi shortstop Jacob Gonzalez. Things have not gone as planned for the lefthanded-hitting college star. This year, Gonzalez has gotten back on the radar at Triple-A Charlotte by adding defensive versatility and overhauling his swing—again. In the offseason, he identified hitters with a similar initial batting move and tried to mimic what makes them successful. White Sox correspondent James Fegan describes the mechanical changes like this: “Gonzalez used to start in a crouch, and then crouch even deeper as his swing began. Now he stands tall and leans back in his setup, before striding into a closed stance to combat his tendency to pull off the ball.”The writing is on the wall for 2023 first-round pick Jacob Gonzalez. After hitting 40 home runs in three seasons at Ole Miss, Gonzalez entered his fourth pro season this year with a slugging percentage well under .400. Other shortstops in the system have zoomed past him on the depth chart, most notably Caleb Bonemer and Billy Carlson. At Triple-A Charlotte this season, Gonzalez has added a first base glove to his bag to prepare for life as a multi-position reserve.“I’ve struggled the past two years, and now I’ve gotta prove to myself and to the White Sox that I’m better than what I have been,” Gonzalez said. The lefthanded hitter’s swing has been through many iterations, aimed both at combating directional issues that hamper his ability to cover the outer half of the plate as well as a two-strike approach that resulted in contact at the cost of effectiveness.Yet the 23-year-old still embraced another major alteration to his setup with vigor.“I was already struggling, so I was trying to experiment,” Gonzalez said. “I mean, it couldn’t get worse.”With the help of White Sox hitting director Ryan Fuller, Gonzalez identified Matt Carpenter and Paul Goldschmidt as hitters who, like him, tend to stride forward and get lower with their first move.Gonzalez used to start in a crouch, and then crouch even deeper as his swing began. Now he stands tall and leans back in his setup, before striding into a closed stance to combat his tendency to pull off the ball.Gonzalez mashed nine home runs in his first 32 games this season, albeit with eight of them coming in home games at hitter’s paradise Truist Field.“It is an offensive park, but I’ll give Jacob a ton of credit because he has made some adjustments if you’ve watched video,” White Sox farm director Paul Janish said. “The hands are a little lower . . .“Really, it’s trying to get him into a frame of mind where he’s comfortable taking shots. He’s got pop.”
