Definitely. There were so many transient players who are essentially fungible on the bottom of our roster. High ceiling guys are who we should hording.

Yup. And then to replace him with Sims...gotta hope it's just to buy an extra year of service time on someone like Wikelman. Might've rather even seen Cannon in a long relief role. Or obviously Pallette who probably would've made the team regardless of his rule 5 status.

Is that even legal? The way I understand PTBNL is you have to present a list of players at the time of the trade to choose between. How could the Red Sox put Paez on a list if he isn't in their organization at the time of the trade? Unless I'm misunderstanding how it works, I don't think he can be included in that particular trade.

It doesn’t matter. His conspiracy theory gives Getz far too much credit. He’s not that smart and he didn’t plan this out.

Perhaps kind of boils down to what I think Chitownsports was saying yesterday: Getz can't scout; and apparently no one in his circle can either. Hahn couldn't either and it always annoyed me that he didn't bring in people who could (especially since Hahn knew he couldn't scout); but he had KW, who could scout, until that fell apart.
I'm not convinced that Getz is actually scouting all of these acquisitions anyway. Trust

As far as Paez goes, he had barely pitched above A ball..what exactly did they expect? He was a weird Rule 5 choice to being with.

His pick wasn't bad. This is a pointless year in terms of standings, so if he is a guy who you think can help you in 2028-29, you pick your spots with him, maybe DL him a couple of times, but you get him to the minimum service time needed to keep him. I just don't get putting him on the 25 roster AND THEN cutting him. If he wasn't good enough today, he wasn't good enough a week ago. Cut him then and save a roster slot.

People spend so much time scratching their head at Getz decisions which is odd to me at this point... head scratching usually originates from expectations, which I have none of with Getz.

This is a good point. Not every Rule 5 pick is going to be an immediate success like Smith and Vasil. They are usually unfinished talent not quite ready for the majors that a team tries to hide on their roster long enough to gain their control. This team is looking well on its way to 100+ losses again. You should be to hide him on your roster in yet another losing season, especially when his immediate replacement is Lucas Sims.
