Sox now have a Big Three. Mura, Vargas and Colson.

Colson has gone from a 6 win pace to a sub 4. He is still plenty young and can improve, but as of now the swing & miss really limits his ceiling. They got to find a way to get his whiff rate back to Y25 levels.

It seems about the time he got injured is when his numbers started tailing off. I wonder if there is a connection more than they are telling us.

Colson Montgomery hit career HR #35 today, in career game 128. Fastest to 35 in Sox history, beating Abreu by 5 games.

The only Sox to hit more HR in ANY 140 game span are Thome (42 from 4/2/2006-9/25/2006) and Quentin (41 from 4/3/2008-4/17/2009)

Just saying hi. I finally got logged into soxtalk here at the library in Ks. Maybe that's the key for me. Also it looks like I may be able to get in on my phone with a new name. I love the big three.

Mune/Vargas first pair of Sox to hit 28+ HR in a season since Abreu and Eloy in 2019.

Colson should join them soon enough and all three should clear 30+

  • 1927 New York Yankees: Babe Ruth (60), Lou Gehrig (47), Bob Meusel (33).

  • 1930 Philadelphia Athletics: Jimmie Foxx (37), Al Simmons (36), Mule Haas (32).

  • 1956 Cincinnati Reds: Wally Post (33), Ted Kluszewski (35), Gus Bell (32).

  • 1977 Los Angeles Dodgers: Reggie Smith (32), Steve Garvey (33), Ron Cey (28) — (note: Cey fell short here; included to show era context)

ABs per HR:

  • Mune: 11.24 (1st in MLB)

  • Vargas: 16.54 (16th)

  • Colson: 17.35 (19th)

Only team with 3 in the top 20. Four other teams have two:

  • NYY: Rice (5th) and Luis Garcia (18th)

  • LAD: Shohei (9th) and Muncy (10th)

  • WSH: Wood (8th) and Abrams (13th)

  • ATH: Langeliers (14th) and Kurtz (17th)

Mune (2nd) and Vargas (17th) are also top 20 in walk%. No other duo is top 20 at both.
