Pirates/White Sox

"Yet here are the White Sox and Pirates, each with winning records and playoff odds in excess of 40%, each exhibiting traits of Actually Good Baseball Teams that should make them no-doubt buyers. For both clubs, adding pitching to support a stellar lineup is paramount. Pittsburgh's woeful bullpen has undermined its revamped and resplendent offense and talented rotation. The White Sox haven't been that bad on the mound but lack the impact arms typically associated with October-bound clubs.

On the whole, expect Pittsburgh to act more urgently than Chicago, as there's more pressure on its front office to finally win after meandering for years, whereas the Sox look to be at the outset of an exciting era on the South Side and thus might be hesitant to spend future assets for short-term solutions."

  • They should buy when it makes sense. May that be controllable assets or rentals that are reasonable and don’t require prospect capital. Just because they started this home stand with two losses, that

Two bad games and Parkman has arisen from the dead. And they want to white flag it while we sit 1.5 games up in 1st place admist the weakest AL in years. I am actually embarrassed to be a Sox fan wit

  • Sox should be adding, shopping in the rental market. An opportunity is an opportunity, and a playoff appearance is meaningful to the fanbase, the players on the team, and the bottom line. They should

I think we can finally give an assessment on this poll and the answer is YES…

IF you’re going to get at least two starting pitchers and a catcher AND you’re keeping the farm strong.

Those are some tough constraints and if it’s not able to be done, then get as close as possible to it but do not sell the farm.

The team that shouldn't acquire Skubal

White Sox

You never want to advocate passivity, but the White Sox should not mortgage their future for two months of Skubal. Nor will they. Because while this season has been a wonderful surprise for the Sox, their window probably doesn't open in earnest until 2027. That's true even if they sneak into October this year. Chicago should and will be aggressive to add pitching before the deadline, but that likely comes in the form of a controllable arm such as the Mariners' Hancock, Angels' Reid Detmers, Yankees' Will Warren or Twins' Joe Ryan.

People continue ignoring this and simply overreact to streaks. The offense is going through a power outage, once that changes so will the optimism around this team. Personally, I have been very happy with the pitching as of late. The bullpen is really coming together and Martin looks like a solid #3 SP even if his ace like run in the 1H was unstainable. This team is legit and is a few moves away from being serious contenders. We need to buy buy buy.

Because of our ability to take walks, even if we slump we will still be able to drive in runs. It's much more sustainable then 2020

Well entering play today FG has us at 48% to make playoffs. It's basically tied with the highest mark of the year. We were slightly higher on June 29th. I'd say that's more than enough to make some additions. Not like sell the farm type additions but a bullpen arm or two and a back end starter would help get those odds closer to 60%.
