Not long after we acquired Doyle, I commented somewhere on here about how fidgety he was at the plate. I think I phrased it as him looking like an amateur golfer who watched way too many YouTube swing videos. He had a dramatic toe tap, moving his body a ton pre-pitch like some sort of routine he felt was necessary. He looked awful.

Now? Hes SO MUCH QUIETER in his stance. More upright, very slight toe tap, is not draining concentration from the pitcher by concentrating on some dumb movement. He looks like a completely different hitter.

For as much s%*# as Getz fairly gets for the Castillo debacle, I think this Doyle move is going to prove to be a real winner, not only through this post season but also by adding another 20-30 dongs to our lineup next season. Huge props to the hitting staff for apparently fixing this kid.

Pretty sure you and I were the only Doyle advocates when we got him. I think he’s going to be one of the most valuable players on our team next year and will be starting in centerfield with Peters getting time in left.

He can be a 5 tool player. Excellent pick up. We need right handed pop.

Peters arm makes him a better corner outfielder.

Also think Vargas could potentially be a corner outfielder. Don't think for a second that it's the equivalent of moving Vaughn to the outfield. He's the best athlete on the team by far.

If the coaches can fix Doyle, what does that say about some other players who clearly have needed fixing for a while.

That it’s predominantly mental, but I was assured it was a 1.37° change in Mune’s bat angle while in his batting stance and definitely not mental.

Doyle has the better arm and sprint speed is very very close.

Vargas better power for his size, but not by a whole lot unless you're saying Vargas has even more potential to reach for physically next year.

That some are more resistant to change than others.

That baseball scouts and pitchers/catchers also possess an equivalent ability to bounce back with adjustments.

Doyle has been getting playing time, especially against LHP, and has pretty good numbers to show for it.

He is hot at the right time.

He could never hit in the best hitter's park in MLB, and you guys think it's because of some unusual movement in the batters box?

One of the stories we've heard is that Doyle's offense was adversely impacted by outfield wall collisions caused by his aggressive style of play...think Aaron Rowand.

Brenton Doyle’s 2026 falloff was significantly exacerbated by a combination of swing changes, a severe left oblique contusion, and a nagging left groin strain. After winning back-to-back National League Gold Gloves in 2023 and 2024 and hitting 23 home runs in 2024, Doyle struggled heavily at the plate before being sidelined by injuries in mid-May. • The Oblique Contusion: On May 19, 2026, while making a characteristic fearless dive for a fly ball, Doyle suffered a severe left oblique contusion. The injury placed him on the 10-day injured list and proved to be incredibly restrictive, limiting his core movement and delaying baseball activities for weeks.

  Colorado Rockies outfielderBrenton Doyle(groin, oblique) was scheduled to play a full minor-league rehab game in center field for Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, but he was scratched from the lineup before first pitch due to groin tightness, according to MLB.com. Doyle has been on the 10-day injured list since May 21 with a left-oblique contusion.

Also injured in Spring Training...which undoubtedly was the start of the swing changes/tinkering.

"diagnosed with a sprained left wrist, keeping the two-time Gold Glove winner out of spring training action for the past three games"

overall, sounds very similar to Kyle Teel's season...just one setback after another

8% below average mlb offensive line but still a valuable player with that defensive and base running baseline

Tells me his best days are still ahead of him. It’s the only Getz deadline move I was stoked on. Still have my fingers crossed from Brazoban. Castillo is fucking cooked unfortunately and Bart will probably be trad bait or a backup next year.

Not a single walk in 93 ABs. Williams/Hahn era profile player. His peak year was .764 OPS in the best hitters park in baseball.
One of those is okay if he produces.

I'll sadly note that Doyle's xwOBA is actually lower with the Sox than with the Rox this season. Expected stats pick up the improvement in the past little while, but the expected stats seem to think he didn't improve that much and just got some lucky outcomes. He's had a couple infield singles and seeing eye ground ball singles that are probably propping him up a bit — plus I bet a couple of those homers could have just as easily been doubles. He needs to keep working.

His K rate spiked this year and I'm not totally sure why. His chase rate went up a bit but not by a ton. Makes contact in the zone reasonably well. Might just be getting really free-swinging with two strikes.
