December 13, 200322 yr Just listening to ESPN news...Jim Bowden...said that Carl Everett has reached a deal with the Devil Rays and it is just waiting to be announced and he also mentioned that the Royals are VERY close to signing Graffinino to a two-deal, he didn't disclose terms on either of the pending deals..
December 13, 200322 yr I hope Everett gives them something to really be excited about in Tampa. He's a quality bat and I wish him well.
December 13, 200322 yr Everything just seems to blow up in KW's face. First Sullivan and now Graffinino are going to be with KC next year. Not as if they were expendable.....both would of been greatly needed next year. Instead lets sit back on watch the Royals build themselves a contender (so be in the AL central) while we're waiting........and waiting for cheap s*** to come along. I understand its still early in the offseason, but I'm looking at KW and praying he doesnt f*** anything up. Maybe waiting before making a move is best with his prior history.
December 13, 200322 yr I'm shocked no other team would of wanted Everett, especially if he does sign for somewhere between 3-5 mill.

December 13, 200322 yr I love Carls attitude and I wish him well in Tampa. As for Graffy, hes a good player but since hell never be a starter he wont help the Royals that much. What Im saying, is the Royals are just a few key players away from taking this division, and altho Graffs good, he isnt one of those players...
December 13, 200322 yr You cannot take the Royals seriously until they have quality pitching, and they do not Look at their starters, then look at ours
December 14, 200322 yr If the report of his new salary of about $3 MM is true, that is about what he should be getting. That $9MM ++ he received last year was way off base and is what prevented us from getting draft picks for him. Another tribute to stupid GM's. Carl can hit, and he should play hard for Sweet Lou. That'll be a great outfield with Crawford and Rocky B. Carl won't have to play center as he did with us. The signing puts the cap on another terrible trade in a string of bad trades. We gave up Rupe, Webster, Ring, Bittner, and Hummell for just about nothing. When you throw in the Foulke for Koch fiasco, I just shake my head in disbelief.

It definately stinks that the Sox have lost basically everyone they acquired in those trades...realistically Scho is all the sox have to show for it. I do think it was worth going for it though, although I hated seeing Rupe go.
December 14, 200322 yr I agree. Basically, in the end, we traded like 8 quality minor-leaguers whol will be big-leaguers soon, for Scott "I wanna be a starter" Schoenoweis. Whoop-dee-doo!
December 14, 200322 yr You cannot take the Royals seriously until they have quality pitching, and they do not Look at their starters, then look at ours And then look at their bullpen and look at ours. They actually have a half-decent pen, while we have Marte, Wunsch and then about 4 huge question marks. And do not forget that Elvis Hernandez, their opening day starter from last year, was only a rookie and his arm was pretty much dead in late July early August. I expect to see him a little stronger this year. As of right now, they would kick our ass.
December 14, 200322 yr Good for Carl....I really liked the guy when he was here. I know the circumstances, but it's unfortunate we couldn't keep him around. He's probably my favorite guy from the trades this season. He raised his BA about 15 points while being in Chicago.
December 14, 200322 yr the AL central is like freakin' "Friends" dating service why don't we pick up milton bradley and matt lawton...then the royals can sign graf and sully...detriot can sign ibanez and mcdougal...and so on. puff puff pass your players

Well it was either that or do nothing and give up on what was likly our only chance at the playoffs for a while. Rupe and maybe Webster will be the only guys that will amount to anything.
December 14, 200322 yr What's so special about our starting rotation? We have Buehrle - had a terrible first half last year. Will he rebound? We have Loaiza - had the first good year of his career. The league now knows him, can he even sniff his numbers from last year? We have Garland - good one game, sucks ass the next. As inconsistent as anyone in baseball. And our 4th and 5th starters - We have - we have - we have ???????? Rauch? Schoenweiss? Wright? Cotts? LMAO!!! Garbage - at this point. Get the Hefty bags ready. Before you throw that stone at the Royals glass house, be sure no one is throwing stones at ours. Our rotation stinks right now, so worry more about OUR staff instead of insulting the Royals staff.
December 14, 200322 yr Even as it now stands, I like our top three starters better than most out there.

I do think it was worth going for it though, although I hated seeing Rupe go. From an old guys perspective, the division was ours for the winning. Prospects suck. I've been watching Sox prospects for 30+ years. Win when you have the chance, and the chance last year was as good as it got. How many people on this board where alive the last time the Sox won a pennant? not me and I'm old . . .
