Reliever Vic Darensbourg also was signed to a minor-league deal and will be one of the team's non-roster invitees, along with Person, to Spring Training. The left-hander appeared in no less than 56 games during the first four years of his career with Florida but struggled with the Marlins, Colorado and Montreal during the past three seasons.

During the 2003 campaign, Darensbourg appeared in 15 games and worked 15 1/3 innings, posting an 8.00 ERA.

2004 World Champs now!!!!!!!!!!!! :snr :cheers :drink Thank you KW!!!!! :notworthy

Makes us look like we are doing something. In 2001, he posted a 3+/1 K/BB ratio. Averaged over 50 games before 2002, where he had 42. Last year I will bet something was wrong.

Oh yeah, he's cheap...look at his 2003 salary...$1,100.

How was he paid only $1100? Or is that a truncation of the total?

I have no idea, I think it was a misprint...I posted the link, ESPN has that as his 2003 salary.

Yeah - I clicked on the link and saw it. Don't understand it though!

He was pretty solid for a year or two with the Marlins a long time ago. Still, he's a lefty and at the very least could be a quality guy to have in Charlotte.

geez...this reminds of the movie slapshot where paul newman is talking to the GM after he picked up the hanson bros..

"you'll pick up every piece of garbage in the league, wont you"

Here's what I don't get.

Everybody agree's that JR is a cheap owner, so big time FA's, ie. Guerrero Tejada etc, are out of the question.

Everybody gets mad when the Sox don't make trades or sign anybody.

Everybody complains when the Sox make small FA signings, ie.Person, Darensbourg etc.

If we all agree that JR is a cheap owner and agree that Big time FA's are out of the question, why are you complaining when they sign small time FA's? Shouldn't these kind of signings be obvious and expected?

obvious

expected

and totally uninspiring

Maybe he gets paid on commission?

They made an error with Ponson too, because they had him making like $6.25 billion or something like that.

let's face facts: We're shifting through the discard and return bin trying to find another Loaiza or Gordon (a major question because of injuries before last season) or Herbert Perry or whomever.

One or two of these guys might actually help. Hope they do.

No problem with that.

But the Sox need two more starting pitchers. Legit starting pitchers.

Period.

Colon threw a s***pot of quality innings last season. And we never did have a number five starter. If we don't fix that, the entire pitching staff falls apart because then you have to overuse your bullpen and everything goes to s*** real quick.

Until we address those two problems, all this other stuff is merely playtime.

despite all those innings colon threw we still overused marte and gordon..making them less effective down the stretch...now with gordon being replaced with pol pot or whatever his name is marte's arm might just fall off completely this year..

when yopu look at past history its about time for both garland and marte to come up lame...just think if that happens what a world of dung we will be in

Now that would be overpaying.
