We don't throw back homerun balls. Congrats to the people who held on to the KC homers. For those of you not at the game, there was a large number of people in left field trying to get people to throw the KC homeruns back onto the field. :fthecubs

Jesus...when will people learn. If you don't want the ball give it to a kid...make his day. I'm glad those people were smart enough to know better. I have a feeling that won't happen so much when the regular sox fans are in attendance as opposed to the "opening day" crowd.

I agree that throwing the ball back is a Cubs tradition, and that giving the ball to a kid would make his day. But, whoever catches a homerun ball has the right to do whatever they choose with that ball. Personally I wouldn't do it, but I think that complaining about a fan throwing a ball back is pretty pointless.

Actually, anyone who throws the ball back on the field is disturbing play and should be escorted out of the stadium by security.

1. The probability of catching 1 homerun within your lifetime should be the first insight that you should keep the ball. I caught a Tino Martinez HR a few years ago when he was on the Mariners and to this day it sits next to my Joe Crede foul ball caught at 1:08 in the morning last year.

 

2. I got a batting practice HR before the game yesterday. I could care less about a batting practice HR. So what I did was during my little league practice in the evening I showed it to the kids. Told them that there are 3 practices remaining before the first game. Whoever is at practice on time and gives the most effort in these next three practices will get this ball. Their eyes lit up. I completely agree with what someone said earlier in this thread. If you don't want it, make a kid's day...

Oh yeah, I caught one too yesterday. Who's was yours from? Mine was hit by Angel Berroa - the guy above me dropped it, and it fell right into my feet. I kind of wanted to keep it, because I've never caught/had an actual game baseball, and it was hit by Angel Berroa, last years ROTY, so that's pretty cool.

 

Plus, I'm only 16. I'm still a kid, right?

I agree a ton...if I ever got a ball, I would give it to my lil sis...no question.

They had footage of a fan pulling the switcheroo last year at a Cubs game, and ESPN made it a point to show it.

 

 

The closest I've ever gotten to a home run ball was in 2000 at a Twins-White Sox game in September. Torii Hunter hit a home run that landed literally one row in front of me. He hits it like 1 foot higher and it lands in my lap, not the guy's sitting in front of me.

 

Then my brother got a BP ball from JC Romero the next day. So it all worked out in the end.

All I've gotten was a Jermaine Dye BP ball. The sun was right in my eyes while standing in left, but it bounced right to me. That was right after a scary moment when an elderly man got hit in the head on the fly because he lost the ball in the sun. They took him to first aid, and I never saw him agian.

a game back in '97, i was with my dad (i was 10 at the time), we were sitting right behind the plate, during BP, ray-ray durham tried to throw a ball into the UD, fell short, it rolled down the net behind the plate (not there anymore) and fell right to us. That same game, a foul ball went behind the plate, fell ontop of the netting, and rolled to us again, awesome game

I was also sitting left of the foul pole. At least 25-50 people were chanting throw it back and pointing towards the field after one KC homer. As people from my section(including myself) were yelling "Keep the damn ball, this isn't f-ing Wrigley!!"
