Brian Sabean

From Rotoworld, thought it was quite interestin, no Schmidt though.

Giants' GM Brian Sabean appears close to throwing in the towel on the 2004 season.

''I'm not much for patience,'' Sabean said Thursday. ''Last year we won 100 games. This year, we've won 17. I might have to eat some of our roster. Let some guys go with (big) contracts. Reshape things. Give some kids a chance.'' Don't expect any big moves before June, but some players to look for in San Francisco include outfielder Todd Linden, shortstop Cody Ransom, and pitchers Merkin Valdez, David Aardsma, and Matt Cain. J.T. Snow, Marquis Grissom, Edgardo Alfonzo, Brett Tomko, A.J. Pierzynski, Neifi Perez, Michael Tucker, Kirk Rueter, Ray Durham and other disappointing players could be dealt or released depending on how much Sabean shakes things up.

nothing on that list that interests me, other than perhaps Reuter or A.J.

the others are overpriced and primed to decline.

JT Snow would be a decent pick up if he were released and PK was traded. [which could happen the way PK is swinging the bat]

Snow would be an upgrade in the field, but he's lost almost all of his power, he's another slowpoke and he's ancient. Rather use Gload than Snow.

Yeah they both sound nice but A.J. wouldn't be a good fit, not only because no one likes him in the clubhouse, but also because we already have Olivo. Didn't Reuter shut us out last season when he saw us? If it was him, we really sucked that night against him.

The Sox don't need power. Though they could use Snow's LH bat, playoff experience at 1B, and on the bench. For the league minimum, it wouldn't be bad if Pk wasn't around. [i'm not talking about adding him now. But if someone needed to be added for a playoff run maybe]

I like Gload. But it remains to be seen how well he does in pressure situations.

JT would be a good addition in the event that we trade Konerko.

I guess Gload is a defensive specialist at 1B, which makes trading Paulie very attractive.

I agree they need to see what he can do in pressure situations, I.E. down the stretch and as an everyday tool, but I'd still like to see JT on the team if and when we trade Konerko simply because he is proven.

AJ Pierzynski would be an ideal fit.. he's a lefty who tears apart right handed pitching... You have a platoon of Olivo and Pierzynski with Olivo getting the majoirty of games against lefties. It makes perfect sense, especially since he signed a long term deal with the Giants and he's not playing too well, meaning he could be had for virtually nothing.

Too big of a problem child tho, no way we go after AJ, not many teams will, no matter how good a hitter he is.

I don't think he wants to play for the sox. ;)

No AJ. The Sox have Olivo, who's making near the league minimum. The Sox couldn't get a SP and a CF, the two biggest needs now. Potential injuries also factor in if the Sox then have needs to fill.

The sox don't and shouldn't pick up a long term contract. Whatever they do, it'll likely be for the short term, ie for the 2004 season.

He is tearing apart the Giants clubhouse. He threw an elbow at Frank Thomas running to first last year. Why would you want this asshole on our team? He is not even that good of a player to want over Olivo or Alomar. I could care less if he is a lefty.

The only only player they can get a s*** load for is Jason Schmidt. I wonder how much it would take for San Fran to give him up and pay his salary this year, probably a lot more than Kenny is willing to give up.

Agreed, AJ is not needed on this team, nor would he be accepted.

FWIW... I heard the stories of the clubhouse riff raff were seriously over stated. :huh

Pierzynski is nothing outside the rollerdome. He made a living hitting hard grounders that just got through the holes in the IF by going just fast enough.

The only two teams he'd be successful for now are Montreal(when they are in Montreal) and Toronto.

Then again, maybe not.

His career average at the rollerdome is .308, and his career home/away average is .304/.292 respectively, and his turf/grass average is .302/.294 respectively.

So scratch what I said. He just sucks ass now.

I would say at least 75% of them. What fun is reading about harmony in the clubhouse..

You mean like Sammy and his music?

Pierzynski would not want to play for us, he is still a Twin deep down inside. Case in point, when the remark was made that he always watches Twins games. Also the numbers Brando put up were not attractive. No AJ here.

Now if we could dump Lee and get Bonds....

X-Factor: He's a better player than Sandy Alomar, he's a lefty, he can be had for very little while still probably being able to give up a contract ala Lee or Konerko.
