YASNY
I'm interested in hearing from you guys on what is and what isn't acceptable behavior at the ballpark. The recent couple of articles in the Tribune about fans with cellphones made me start thinking about this. Your thoughts on the wave, cellphones, camera hamming, drunks, etc would be most welcome. Anything from tailgate parties to leaving the stadium would be welcome. If you have a pet peeve let me hear it.
Queen Prawn
I don't have a problem with people having cells, but do you have to call home and wave while on camera? Get a life. I do think people should not allow their drinking to get out of hand considering public drunkeness is an arrestable offense. Tailgating is great, not sure why anyone would take issue with this. southsider2k5
I am an odd-ball with this I know, but I am really old fashioned in this. If you are in your seat, you should be watching the damned game. People on cell phones trying to get on camera should be escorted out of the stadium. Period. I am also a big proponent of hockey rules. If the game is going on, you should be in your seat. No getting up while a pitch or a play is going on. Wait until play is done, then exit or enter your seat. People causing problems need to be run out of the stadium early. The longer they stay, the more chances of a fight breaking out. Plus if you set the example that stupid s*** will not be tolerated, other people won't be as likely to do it. I won't even get up for someone when they're trying to get in/out during an at bat. "Wait until between hitters." I always say. It is, by far, my biggest pet peeve at the ball park! Places like the UC actually have curtians that they pull at the end of the tunnels to the seats, and won't let anyone in while play is going on. There might be a more proper term for it, but a guy I know who was an usher for the Hawks always called it that.

SnB
Swearing in front of little kids, I'm only 17 and I understand that. Don't get up every 1/2 inning, especially if your not sitting at the end of a row.

Texsox
Don't mess with my enjoyment of the game. Don't drink if it means you have to piss twice an inning. Don't hog the arm rest. Cheer good plays for your team if you must, but do not cheer for my team's bad plays. If your change is less than a buck and I have to pass it to you, tell the vendor to keep the change. No smoking No swearing if kids are in earshot Unless you are drawing a MLB pension, do not try and impress anyone with your baseball knowledge. Do not ask for information that is on the scoreboard or in the program If you can totally f*** up the Cub's chances of going to the World Series by fan interference, please go for it. If you are a guy and there with a hot girlfriend, share. OK, the last one is optional.

Anything from tailgate parties to leaving the stadium would be welcome. If you have a pet peeve let me hear it. -My pet peeve is the cell phone thing. I've always maintained that if they ever build a museum to Flubdom they need to have an exhibit where there are 4 seats side by side with a fan on either end talking to each other on cell phones & then one of em gets bopped in the head by a foul ball. -People who leave trash & peanut shells everywhere is another pet peeve of mine. Maybe I'm just a clean freak but when I try to get up & I need to make a physical effort to move my feet because they're stuck in a sticky puddle of dried pop or nacho cheese there's something wrong. -One more thing. If you're walking in the parking lot please move to one side. There are people who will walk right in the middle of the lanes where cars are trying to pass through. False Alarm
i don't really get annoyed easily at the ballpark. i agree with everything said about people getting up during at-bats and innings. but the cell-phone thing...i usually don't understand why people care so much. i don't do it myself (don't even own a cell phone, in fact), but if someone wants to look and sound like an ass to those around them, let em. if they're really loud or obnoxious, then yeah someone should get on em, but that just falls under general bad manners to me, not cell-phone-specific bad manners. as for drunks, i get fairly tanked pretty much every time i go to a ball game ( ). but i'm also really shy, so even drunk, i don't think i bother people much. except that i'm a little dude and have a tiny bladder and DO have to get up to piss a lot. sorry if i'm in the middle and having to get up between half innings ruins your game-day experience. being sober ruins mine. oh except one time a couple of years ago i did jump up and pump my fist in celebration when paulie hit a go-ahead HR, and i drunkenly tripped and fell and draped myself over this 350-lb guy. i felt terrible about that and would've deserved it had he picked me up with one hand and flung me over the edge of the upper deck. on the other hand, we had just come back from down about 8 runs vs the cubs, and dude was a cub fan. maybe i don't feel so bad. witesoxfan
My biggest pet peeve has already been talked about. Wait until the f***ing play is over and then get up. I swear to God in the Metrodome, people would watch the s*** that goes on between innings AND THEN go to the bathroom or get some (more) food once the inning starts. I was starting to get pissed as hell. I don't like the cellphone thing, but so long as people don't use their cell phones all the f***ing time, I could give a s***. Also, I like the wave, especially when they do it for our players. The Twins fans in the dome yesterday were doing the wave right before Rowand's homer. It was funny ass s***, because they just got the wave done right and it started going around the entire stadium and the ball went over the baggie. I laughed my ass off. The Critic
Maybe it's because I'm getting so old and don't have the mindset to be pissed off at everything anymore, but I find I'm becoming much more tolerant of things at the ballpark that would have seriously pissed me off a few years ago. Such as the Weak Bladder Crowd - I recently went to The Deadly Confines with my cousin ( he's a HUGE Cub fan go figure ) and the guys next to us were CONSTANTLY getting up to purchase new beers and "dispense" of the old ones. It happened so often that it could have become contentious, but instead we ended up making jokes about it with them. They wound up buying us a couple beers for being cool about it, so it all worked out well! I will NEVER understand people's weird thrill about being seen on camera in the background of a sporting event or television news story. It's always bizarre to me to see people waving and jumping around behind some field reporter talking about a murder at a restaurant or a deadly car crash or something. The swearing around my 4-year-old irritates me, but I realize that when you have thousands of people at a public place, you're going to have some language flying around. Most people will at least try to scale it down if you ask them in a non-aggressive manner, but it can make for an unpleaseant experience at the park if they refuse to. I was starting to get pissed as hell. I noticed that too when I was at the triple H dome a few years ago. They looked like f***ing robots. Me and my dad were just laughing at them. And then their mascot, TC or something like that, was signing autographs on the councourse near our seats, and the line went down the stairs instead of along the concourse. They are a different breed there.

People were actually getting that dope's autograph! Of course, I was yelling "Crack! WOO! Crack! WOO!!"
Soxy
I'm definitely on the don't make me get up in the middle of an inning--I like sitting on the end but HATE having to get up and missing pitches. Also, don't stand right at the railing while waiting to get to your seats. I asked one girl to move Saturday because I couldn't see Big Frank batting and she yelled at ME because she was just deciding where to sit. :headshake I'm also not a big fan of irritating drunks at the ball park--but I understand it's a part of the game. I just prefer to watch the game.... And finally: watch your dang kids! I saw so many kids running around this weekend and at other games it was scary. There's the obvious stranger danger stuff--but also kids don't know to watch for balls so keep them with you and near you...

DBAHO
I went to a footy game down here last Saturday with my sis, it was a fully ticketed sellout match, and we got in 10 mins afta the game started. By the time we made it to our seats, we discovered 2 idiots sittin in our seats (they had standing room only seats). Don't know bout u, but this really pissed me off. I don't mind ppl havin a few drinks, but they should be held accountable for their behaviour if they cross the line. A few years ago, I saw 2 drunks about 5 rows in front supporting diff teams start a fully fledged brawl against each otha. Luckily the cops broke it up quickly. IlliniKrush
Ya, the wait for the play/inning to be over thing is the hockey rule "wait for a whistle." I once kicked a guy into the row in front of me after he attempted to do it twice in one period. I told him that i paid to watch a game and not his ass, and everyone near me was in agreement. If people get up/come in in the middle of an at bat, i'll make some comment to make it known that it was a jackass thing to do. I like the MLB pension thing mentioned. So many people act like know it alls at games when in fact they know nothing. That gets irritating. And please don't tell me to sit down if 9/10 of the stadium is standing and you don't feel like getting up
FlaSoxxJim
Swearing in front of little kids, I'm only 17 and I understand that. That's the big one for me. Show some courtesy for the families sitting around you. That carries over into drunkenness - have a good time, but don't let it get out of hand and don't infringe on the good time of those around you.
