maggsmaggs
More likely, Beltran will go elsewhere this summer (Dodgers?), then sign long-term with the Yankees, who don't have the prospects to acquire him now. Beltran already is envisioning playing his home games in the Bronx. If, as expected, the Yankees sign Beltran this winter, the Mets must go for Magglio Ordoñez, who'd make folks forget they passed on Vladimir Guerrero. Newsday has learned that Ordoñez's contract negotiations with the White Sox recently fell apart after he rejected a five-year, $70-million bid, exactly what he originally sought. Ordoñez now is all but certain to leave. http://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/n...orts-columnists I would really be pissed if this happens and Maggs walks, this new info is discourging, but since it is coming from New York I don't know how reliable it is concering us in Chicago. Just some more news, take it for what it's worth

BrandoFan
Let's just make it to ALCS and go from there, shall we?
CubKilla
Saw it on http://35thstreetmess.blogspot.com/ via New York Newsday. I'll believe it when I hear it reported by the Chicago media and, this is huge when dealing with JR and Co., when I see the breakdowns as I'm almost positive it wouldn't be 5/$14 per season. SoxAce
Even though someone posted this already, Welcome to Soxtalk Marty34. :cheers BTW, Brando's right. Let's take care of buisness on the field first in winning before we talk about contracts. Also, how much you wanna bet most of that money is deferred? CubKilla
Also, how much you wanna bet most of that money is deferred? What are the odds there's a deferment AND a Diminished Skills Clause?
redandwhite
Take this with a grain of Salt... the chicago papers arent reporting this. I'm taking it with a grain of salt, cause thats all you can take Newsday with, but if it is true, i will have lost most if not all the respect I've had for Magglio over the last few seasons. CubKilla
but if it is true, i will have lost most if not all the respect I've had for Magglio over the last few seasons. I will have too if it's a straight 5 yrs/$14 million per. My better sense is it would be far from that.
Chisoxfn
Welcome aboard Marty34 I think the New York media has been going off the rumor that came up a month or so ago when the Sox were supposedly close. However, if thats what the Sox offered that is a very fair offer.

Let's take care of buisness on the field first in winning before we talk about contracts. Also, how much you wanna bet most of that money is deferred? Magglio has to assume leadership role and help Frank, Esteban, Mark, Juan, Shingo and Co bring this team to ALCS and bring a ton of fans to the park/televisions in the process. If he can't do that, giving him 25% of the payroll would be stupid. I still rmember Frank making 40% of the 1999 payroll - how did that work out? I agree for now , But I watched a guy live yesterday in RF for Angels who is getting that kind of money and sorry to say Maggs is not worth the same money if Sox are paying that kind of money I want VG not MO. southsider2k5
Thats if the Sox offer him arbitration. If there is that kind of market out there for Maggs, they will offer him arbit for sure. If he leaves Chicago he is going to be getting some money from someone, and isn't going to care about a one year deal from here.
ChiSox_Sonix
they'd offer him arbitration no doubt. If they didnt, it would be retarded
