This is a joke, right? Won't happen, end of story.

I read the thread over there at WSI, and I'll agree that Otis is somewhat reliable.

(He has connections in the Boston front office somewhere) -- what I took from what he wrote was that they have inquired about sheets and CC. Doesn't mean they are going to get them.

He seemed to think that Garcia would be ours, but Seattle wants to hear more offers, wait until there's more bidders. He said that our offer for Sheets was going to be hard to beat. --

So in summary, KW will either end up getting fleeced for sheets or CC, or make a nice deal to get Garcia(which is most likely)

To add to that, event though his source lies in Boston, he says the job of his source (or whoever he knows) is to be somewhat knowledgable on who other teams are interested in or inquired about.

Between Sheets and Sabathia (I couldn't resist starting this sentence with "Between Sheets".) who has the most upside. I'd be inclined to think it was Sheets, but I really don't know.

Also, I still think Borchard has a chance to be more of a high impact player than Reed, plus he would supply us with that forever missing LH power. If I had to choose between includinging Reed or Borchard, I'd have to say see ya Jeremy.

I think we all know that if we are goin to get a starter it's goin to be Freddy Garcia. The thing is with Garcia though is that he wants a 4 year $40 million deal when his contract ends this season, Seattle hav been offerin 3 years at $25 million. It is worth rentin Garcia for a few months if we aren't goin to resign him long term? ;)

I agree. Sounds like K Will is asking around. Doesn't mean he'll get either Sheets or CC but is kicking some tires. With Maggs' injury it would be hard to give up either Reed or Joe B.

Reed is a keeper no matter what. His high OBP fits in with the long term make up of the club. Guys like Crede, Olivo, Uribe strike out much more than they walk. This was the pattern even during their minor league careers. Not much will change as they get "older". The Sox need guys who can hit and get on base rather than a guy who can hit tape measure HR's. If the choice was between Reed and Joe, Joe would have to go.

I consider Otis one of very few actual reliable sources.  Say what you want, he was spot on about the Mags/Nomar deal as well as the Wunsch/Bellhorn deal - neither went down, but both probably would have went down.  The Wunsch one didn't go down only because of Wunsch's injury.

Thank G-d we didn't trade Wunsch for that piece of crap (Bellhorn)!

What do you expect to get for a left handed specialist? Bellhorn is a Graffanino type. I think that is what Kenny was looking for at the time. You are not going to get much more for Wunsch.

Last year, Wunsch was 2nd in ALL of the major leagues in "batting average against", (behind only Pedro Martinez). Lefties batted < .125 against him, AND, righties batted < .175 against him.

The Sox are greatly undervaluing/under using Wunsch.

Meanwhile, where the hell is Bellhorn, and what is he doing?

Bellhorn has a .393 OBP right now, and I think he's very close to the league lead in walks. I was very angry when that trade didn't go down, Bellhorn is like an ultra utility guy, he can play almost every IF position as well as the corner outfield positions IIRC.

Bellhorn is doing just what he usually has done. He is a utility player that has some power. He would have been replacing Graffanino.

You are over valuing Wunsch. He is an injury proned left handed specialist and that is all our team sees him as and that is how every other team in the MLB sees him. That is why we will not get much for the guy. I know he is very well liked by Sox fans, but be realistic.

Wunsch had his chances when he was up here. For example, we called him in to face Hank Blalock in a key situation at home vs. Texas, there were RISP, and Blalock blasted a base-hit. Wunsch isn't his old self, and if all he can do is get out lefties (which he didn't do while he was up here), he doesn't have much value to this or any team...

I feel we got that and then some in the surprising trade for Uribe.

No doubt about it. I believe this deal would have been made before we knew what we had in Uribe. I just don't know what some people expect to get for Wunsch. It seems like some people think he is worth a Jim Edmonds or something.

Found this one WSI. This guy (Otis) is not a bulls***er every time he has posted something he has been right on. He says we are targeting Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia. With Garcia being the fall back. Take this for what its worth but this guy is always right on

Not this Otis stuff again. How gulible are you guys? If you believe every word that comes out of this guys mouth, than I have some ocean front property in Kansas that I would like to sell. Seriously, the guy mentioned the possibility of Maggs being part of the ARod deal, and all of a sudden the guy is always right. You do realize that other sources mentioned the possibility of Maggs being part of a possible ARod trade before Otis even mentioned it. Furthermore, there have been at least 2 cases since than in which someone has brought up rumors by Otis that were never even mentioned by a major source as a possibility(paper, credible website, ect), yet alone happened. The fact of the matter is that not 1 of the rumored trades that Otis has mentioned has ever happened, and in the end that is the only thing that matters. Please take what this guy Otis says with a grain of salt, and learn to think critically about things.

1) Why would any team trade young, cheap, talented pitching?

2) In the remote possibility that either of these 2 guys are available, the asking price for either will be far more than Reed/Cotts or a package centered around Borchard.

If no deal occurs involving either Sheets or CC can we officially stop saying that Otis is always right? From my standpoint, he is throw darts at a board and hoping that one of them will stick(which has yet to happen) in an attempt to pump his chest and say I told you.

PS...I heard the Sox are going after Randy Johnson in a package that includes Reed, Cotts, and Rauch. Remember that I mentioned the possibility of Konerko for Perez after I read it in the papers(similar to Otis), so I must always be right. Where is the green text when you need it?

No - he was the first one to mention the deal, weeks before ANYONE, ANYONE, even had a thought of it, so no, you're wrong about that.

He was also spot-on about the Wunsch/Bellhorn deal that would have gone down had it not been for Wunsch's injury (Reinsdorf even mentioned it when he was on the Score). And he hasn't even posted on WSI since then, so I don't know what you're talking about in saying 'there have been two or more cases where Otis has been wrong.'

The Milwaukee GM, while he has said that Sheets is going to be very hard to get, has said that he wants two or three top prospects for Sheets.

Reed is as 'Top-Prospecty' as they get - and Cotts has been successful in his middle-relief role this year, he's still young (a former 1st rounder, might I add) and if he's given time to stretch out/develop, he can become a very good lefty starter. I also don't think that giving them Cotts/Reed is the jist of the deal - we'd probably have to give them a little more.

But please, please - don't be so stupid about this. Honestly... If you don't believe him, that's fine, I really don't care. But no need to sound like an idiot about it. :headshake

I am sorry, but once again you are wrong about Maggs. The possibility of Maggs being traded in the offseason was mentioned way before Otis mentioned the possibility of him being part of the ARod deal. I even remember hearing rumors that Maggs could be part of a big deal before Otis even sniffed the possibility. He just so happened to be the 1st one to break the news, that doesn't mean that it hadn't been thought of or mentioned before. Please learn to think critically about things.

I am not sure about the Wunsch for Bellhorn deal, because I wasn't around during that time, but there have been MULTIPLE instances(during the past offseason) in which someone has posted a Otis rumor and said that this was the guy that mentioned to the Maggs to Boston deal so he has to be right, only to have the rumor never materialize. How many rumors does he have to mention that do not occur before you realize that you are putting your faith in a guy that has never been right?

Your asking me not to be stupid, but you are the one that is believing a guy that has never been right(until a rumor that he brings up happen). Which one of us is being stupid about this? Do you honestly lack the ability to critically think about the issue at hand, and better yet think for yourself? Like I said, I have some ocean front property in Kansas that is available if you are stupid enough to believe every word out of this Otis guys mouth. How old are you? 5? Please do not be so gulible. He is turning out to be the White Sox version of Peter Gammons, which is to say that he throws out a rumor every other day, yet only once in a full moon does one of the rumors actually occur(which has yet to happen for this Otis carracter). Let me ask you not to be stupid about this :huh

Otis was the first one to bring up the Magglio/Nomar thing. He also said the Soriano/A-Rod thing wasn't dead when everyone else said it was. He might be full of it, but I think he has more credibility than let's say....PHIL ROGERS, for example. That being said, I don't see Milwaukee or Cleveland trading either of those guys unless they are really overwhelmed with a deal.
