Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled with the current hitting streak even without the homers, but I am looking for a reason for the lack of homers. Anyone have any ideas for this dropoff...

June 5, 200421 yr He didn't start hitting until he stopped swinging for the HR. The HRs will come, but I like seeing that we're able to score w/out living off the HR.

June 5, 200421 yr It is kind of strange that he hasn't connected on a long one in a while. But, they come. Just as long as he keeps stroking those line drives around the field, I'm cool with that.

June 5, 200421 yr Carlos ranks 51st overall in the American League in Slugging Percentage. Chone Figgins and Alex Sanchez have highers Slugging Percentages. But he has hit so many long drives that were just foul or shy by a couple feet. It's unbelievable.

I wouldn't concern yourself too much with it. Right now he is driving the ball on pitches that warrant it and is doing a great job going with the pitch. I've seen him hit a ton of balls hard into the gap and if they aren't leaving the park no biggie. He's doing a good job at the plate and the homers will come, especially when he gets more inside pitches, which will likely happen. Carlos is really looking good at the plate and its because he isn't trying to swing for the fences. He really has a short, line drive swing going right now.

June 5, 200421 yr But he has hit so many long drives that were just foul or shy by a couple feet. It's unbelievable. Great point, he's been just early on a lot of his long drives. I think the past two weeks he would of had about 5 home runs if the foul pole was 5 feet farther to the left down the left field line.

But he has hit so many long drives that were just foul or shy by a couple feet. It's unbelievable. Yeah, most definitly, he usually hits a just miss foul almost every game during this streak. But honestly, what I'm looking for out of Carlos is getting that RISP average up, and as that goes up, so will his power numbers as he gets more comfortable at the plate with runners on. Im just hoping he can get to #21 so that the national coverage on Sunday Night Baseball gets Carlos some pub for the major leagues longest hitting streak.
June 5, 200421 yr This is just a simple thought, but when I was slumping in my 4 years of baseball (high school and Division III), I would concentrate on just one part of my hitting - hitting the ball with solid contact. I was a power hitter - if you want to call it that - and when working on my swing, I was content on just making solid contact and driving the ball in the gaps and solidly on the ground. When you're in a slump, you try to correct one thing about your swing, and then you work on the other stuff (HR's) once it's sorted out and corrected. Once I had that "contact" thing down pat, I would then look to drive the s*** out of the ball once my swing was more normal and natural. Believe me, he'll be in the 20-25 HR area before it's all said and done. And even if he isn't, as long as he has 85-100 RBI at year's end, it's okay by me. I would rather that Carlos finished with 17 HR and 105 RBI than have him finish with 31 HR and 77 RBI. He's not Rob Deer, after all. Or even Sneezin' Sammy, who can't get RBI's unless he does hit home runs. ACHOO!!

June 5, 200421 yr Carlos is as streaky as they come when it comes to HRs. He'll go 4-5 straight games with one and have 15 before you know it.
