aboz56
Found this in Jayson Stark's latest writing on ESPN.com: It's fascinating how many baseball people expect the Mets to make a big offseason run at one of two high-profile outfield bats -- Magglio Ordonez or Manny Ramirez. Ordonez, who can be a free agent, just broke off contract talks with the White Sox until after the season. But no matter what he's looking for, it will be less than the $78 million Ramirez has coming over the next four years. Whether the Mets would have the players to trade that would make dealing Ramirez worthwhile for the Red Sox, though, is a whole 'nother question. Jordan4life_2007
Until we either sign Maggs or let him go you're gonna here 57527042370843 different rumors of him going to this team or that team. We just gotta deal with it. He's not goin anywhere this year. This year is all we should focus on right now.
Flash Tizzle
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...yson&id=1818887 Look at the date of this article: May 26. The breaking of contract negotiations is based on the column posted in Newsday several weeks ago, which Magglio said was false. Although it wouldn't suprise me that Magglio is lying, I would find it odd how not ONE reporter in Chicago knew about the "broken negotiations." Every article created on this topic used Newsday as a reference; no other reporter has validated the claims of the New York paper.
Steff
FWIW... him and JR were pretty chummy Tuesday night. I imagine that they have made a mutual decision to wait until after July to deal with this stuff. They know what he wants. I'm sure if they want him bad enough, they'll work something out. However... I wouldn't lay a bet on him being on the Sox next year.

greg775
I'm sick of the topic, too. I want to keep him, but if we don't we don't. We should be trying to win it all this year. We've got a pretty good team that will not be a great one unless we find a closer, fifth starter and get a bit more production out of Crede and cf. YASNY
The Mets could have just put in a waiver claim for Ramirez back in the off season. Some of the rumors these guys stir up are lacking one thing ..... Logic!

Logic! yea it really is odd how one team could have had him for nothing and then now we'll give up a top prospect third basemen or Kazmir for him.. seems odd.. Texsox
ok, this is pissing me off. i sure hope maggs isnt being a greedly littly b****. the sox were the ones that gave him his chance. but the sox could be trying to low ball him. crap!!! I cannot crticize a player for wanting the best contract available. I've hired over 100 people in my life, and I never had anyone turn down a pay raise, or ask for a lower starting salary. I've had plenty of employees get offers from other companies that I would not match and they left. If we are going to play the financial game of understanding ownerships position then understand this. Ownership thinks they can make more money without Maggs than with him. They think fans will continue to arrive, continue to buy memorabilia, watch the games, without Maggs. If we are going to understand the ownership position, understand this, they are trying to maximize their profits. If we allow them to put a crap product on the field and attendance only drops slightly, welcome to decades of crap and no World Series wins for another 100 years. We can tell out great grandchildren "Sorry the last time the team had the finances to compete was way back in the 1950s" Let's go to the 150 year Celebration of the last WS win!! Pack the park!! quickman
We the die hard Sox fans are suppose to be so smart. Why are we acting like Cub fans. Why is everyone so damn worried about next year when we are in a pennant race right now. Stop it. this year is why we are fans. We have a great opportunity to win the division, this year. Let next year take care of itself. Just have fun watching a team that can win now.
