Astros trade Richard Hidalgo

Featured Replies

The New York Mets have acquired outfielder Richard Hidalgo from the Houston Astros for reliever David Weathers, according to a report.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Mets will also receive $4 million in cash from Houston, which is ridding itself of a contract that calls for Hidalgo to be paid $12 million this season and $15 million in 2005. The paper also reports the Mets are likely to buy out the final year of Hidalgo's contract for $2 million.

Hidalgo hit 44 home runs and drove in 122 for the Astros in 2000, but has not approached those numbers since and has apparently fallen out of favor with Houston manager Jimy Williams. Hidalgo is hitting .256 with four home runs and 30 RBI in 58 games this season.

Weathers, a 14-year veteran joining his ninth team, appeared in 32 games this seaon for the Mets. He is 5-3 with a 4.28 ERA in 33 2/3 innings.

Peter Gammons predicted this would happen last night on BBTN. Nice timing Peter.

That will help out the Stros a TON!!! Now they can really get some pitching help and really stick it to the Scrubs.

Jester, whos that hottie in ur avatar?

Jason Lane is the RF i think.

This isn't official yet, but it's not a bogus rumor either. Astros site has mention of a trade rumor involving Hidalgo, but nothing confirmed.

Lane will play RF, everyone wants to see him there except Jimy Williams.

I got it from CBS Sportsline, it'll probably be announced officially in the next couple of hours or tomorrow.

Great Trade for the Mets.

Both teams make out ok in this deal.

However the Mets aren't going to do anything until they add a good middle reiliever, and possibly another starter. They may have the league's best ERA, but they do not have the league's best bullpen or rotation.

Gammons was off on the money though. Pro-rated there was about 7 million left this yr to pay. The Mets are picking up 3 million. Nice job by Houston.

Now if they could only find a CF who can play in the amusement park outfield they might have a chance

That would be the beautiful Keira Knightley....shes in the new King Aurthur and was in the Pirates of the Carribean movie.

I would hate to be the CF (mainly Biggio) who has to play out there.

This is a good trade for the, Stros. But I think trading Wagner is gonna bite them in the ass. Having Dotel set-up and Wagner close was money. If they still had him they would no doubt win this division.

Wow, this could mean no more Maggs to the Mets now, depending on how Hidalgo does. ;)
