June 22, 200421 yr i think that a-row has now earned his starting spot back from timo... when maggs get back it'll be a-row, lee, and maggs... with harris, uribe, and jose all as a platoon in the middle infiled (as none have really been on a tear as of late) just what im hopin for we're just in a slump... all teams have their 4 - 8 game losing streaks, and we are now 6 - 11 in june... this hopefully will be our only big time slump of the year... with maggs return lighting a fire under us once again.... who knows, maybe raunch can turn it around and give us something to burn
June 22, 200421 yr Harris isn't slumping, he hasn't been in because of the number of lefties we've faced lately. When Maggs gets back, Harris/Rowand should be our two-headed- centerfield-platoon-monster.
June 22, 200421 yr Aaron Rowand deserves to be starting in CF on a regular basis and Timo Perez should be playing in the role he was traded for and that's reserve OF. I think Ozzie goes to long with some of these guys and is tinkering as much as Jerry Manuel was accused of tinkering. I also have my concerns with Uribe, but I think the real problem there is his refusal to listen to Greg Walker. That has been the rub on him for a long time and that's the fact he will not listen to his coaches. Uribe has a lot of upside otherwise and once he can get it through his head to learn from Greg Walker the more consistent hitter he will be.

I love Willie and Uribe. They'll be around for years. But I too sense they'll fall back down to earth a little this year. The Sox can't afford to have a fall off late in the year if they want to get to the playoffs. That's why a CF who can hit #1 or #2 is needed to take the pressure off them. This will strengthen the bench as well, putting Uribe in the super utility role, splitting time at 2B, SS and 3B. Rowand then is the 4th OFer. Timo doesn't impress me. Sandy is decent enough. Gload is versatile and does the little things.
June 22, 200421 yr How do you know that Uribe is refusing to listen to Greg Walker? Am I missing something, did Greg say something publicly? I am not sure, and would actally doubt Walker saying something publicly, but that is the gist of the comments about Uribe. He has worked with Walker this season to cut down on the swiong, not go for the homer everytime, etc, but he slips back into his old ways. There was a game broadcast on TV (I think either Fox or ESPN) where they showed Uribe almost coming out of his shoes in trying to bash the ball. The back foot was sliding all over the palce and all he was doing was popping up or missing the pitch all together. The comments were made by the announcers about what I just posted.
June 22, 200421 yr Uribe has always gotten off to a hot start and cooled. This year he is cooling at a higher level. As long as he doesn't cool to the Mendoza line, like he has in the past, no worries.

Last night Rick Sutcliffe said that the reason Uribe is having such a good year is because he HAS been listening to Walker.
June 23, 200421 yr Harris plays better when hes playing consistently, in the last 6 games hes only had 12 ab's meaning he played in only about 50% of the games. Perez is a good pinch hitter, but otherwise he does nothing for the Sox. Often times it seems like he cant get to balls that should be caught, and his bat isnt all that great. Hes a good guy to have around to pinch hit and give guys a rest, but with Maggs gone, Harris, Uribe, and Rowand should start almost every day, until one of them proves they shouldnt be. SB
June 23, 200421 yr havent you guys noticed that rowand has gotten to .300 or close to it as a 4th outfielder but he sucked as a starter... hmmm doesnt that make you think that maybe actually he is better as a bench player who gets the spot start here and there and is mostly used in PH opportunities not as a starter

It was either him or that Psycho Lyons that said just the opposite about 2-3 weeks ago. I think Uribe will be good though and am happy we have him so don't get me wrong in my analysis please!
June 23, 200421 yr IF it were me, GLoad or Aaron would be in right everyday. Against lefties I'd probably have Aaron in cf and Gload in rf and other then that Harris would be in CF everyday. I'm kind of dissapointed in how Ozzie seems to be jerking Willie around. He's one of the better leadoff hitters in baseball (statistically). I also know this team needs some serious pitching help, both in the pen and rotation.
