A tale of two-ex Sox

Featured Replies

Foulke blew another one late last night giving up back to back HRs to Olivo and Edgar Martinez...Ms came back to win it in extra innings off a grand slam by Boone

Olivo got a single to get the bases loaded for the winning grand slam

Foulke has now blown 5 of 19 saves, and has blown 4 out of his last 6 saves...

Good for Miguel!

Way to go Miguel! Btw, where's Miguel batting in their lineup if he hit a HR before Edgar? Did Edgar get moved down or Olivo get moved up?

Good for Miguel!

Good for Miguel I love to see him do good as well

Brought to you live by me in the Flying under the radar thread.

In a similar vein, yesterday's Expos-Buccos matchup was Biddle vs. Fogg. Both pitched pretty well, going 5 plus innings, giving up a couple of runs.

Lasy week I saw Biddle against Wells down here. It's like he's been pitching against former teamates

It was a pinch hit HR by Edgar.

Edgar was pinch hitting.

Edgar was pinch hitting.

Is there an echo in here? :huh

I think someone forgot to mention to Boston that Foulke has to blow atleast one save each year to the Twins, Mariners, and Yankees, no matter how good or bad those teams arm, and he has to blow a huge save late in the season/in the post season.

It's like a rule.

It isn't a rule, it is a code he follows and shall never break.

The sad thing is I would kill to have him in our BP right now

Foulke, Shingo, Damaso, Politte as the main guys would be awesome, with Cotts and Adkins brought in as needed for spot duty

Didn't Foulke get a 3 year $24 mil deal to go to Boston? If that is the case we wouldn't have been able to afford Garcia.

Almost invariably when Foulke blows a save it is the managers fault. When he was with the Sox it was always obvious when he did not have his good stuff and was going to be hit. For some reason managers think that their closers have such delicate egos that they can't be pulled in game situations. When Foulke gave up the first homer last night there was no reason for him to be in a position to give up another one. Bad managing.

we wouldnt have cotts if we didnt trade foulke

foulke was a big baby with the Sox.

crying about his confidence and wanting to start.

he ain't gonna get Boston to October.

and there's no way he's worth $8 million per season for the next three years.

Rarely shut down the Twinks when we needed him.

Well said. By contrast watch some Atlanta games and see how Bobby Cox handles his staff, he never sets his guys up for failure. If somebody looks off, he gets them the heck out of there.

Foulke also has 2 losses in the same span that he has blown 4 saves out of his last 6 chances.

That's why he's one of the greatest managers in the game today and has had Atlanta win 10+ straight division titles.. ;)

Doesn't Ozzie bring up Bobby Cox as the man he has learned the most from? He seems to always give Bobby Cox a lot of credit. More so than anyone else.

When we traded for Garcia. was Olivo the throw-in or was it Reed.

Actually when he said he would start he didn't mean he wanted to start. From what he said was that the rotation was so bad back then, he asked KW if he wanted him to start. I don't remember any crying about it though.
