hi8is
2004, a short list, no joking.... in no order 1. i for one am very happy with jon garlands progress... yes, he has looked like "judy" for a couple of starts, yet... he has shown more signs of dominance and has racked up a lot of quality starts... and quickly became out 3rd best starter (ahead of e low and shoey) 2. paulie turning this year around and breakin out 3. carlos lee and his improvments at the plate and in the field 4. big MO, olivo was making tremendious progress this year 5. burly, even thou he had a few really rough starts in which he couldnt find his stuff in the first 2 innings, i really think he is starting to establish himself as a front end, #1/#2 type of guy. 6. freddy garcia trade, gotta love that we have freddy, who i think will only get better and will start to become the ACE that the M's always thought he would be. 7. trading e-low was a great thing, the guy was dead here, wasnt going to be comin back, was losing if not lost his stuff, and in return we have a pitcher with the most upside ive seen in a LONG LONG TIME. 8. Big Frank was doing really well also before he got hurt 9. Its the 1st of August, with two months of baseball left, we have a good 1 - 4 rotation with a 5th starter that can keep us in games from time to time... we are trying to turn things around, and i feel we have shown the heart and desire before... and can again 10. minny has one tough schedule comming up and we have a chance 2005, things i like, things i want/dont want 1. we have a starting rotation of garcia, burly, cont., garland, (free agent of diaz) 2. we most likey have paulie, lee, everett, and thomas comming back.... thats some power right there... 3. we have rowand who hopefully in 2004 not only realised his potential but showed to more fans and staff that he is indeed a very good centerfielder who can hit at the top of the line up 4. we got takatsu commin back 5. maggs jose v alomar jr and e low are gone next year and that frees up about 26 million to sign free agents with... i know that some of that went to garcia and contr. but with our attendance figures up to a high since 2000/1994.... we should get some more pay roll to become a bigger market team.... this gives us money to get a lead off hitter with. next year here is what id like to see.... starting rotation.... pavano or another front end starter, garcia, burly, contr., and garland as a rotation..... bull pen... cotts, diaz, shoey, marte, free agent, and takatsu line up: lead off hitter (preferably a short stop that hits for ave and has good obs with speed) rowand CF lee LF thomas DH Kong 1B everett RF crede 3B harris 2B burke/davis C --------------------------------- in no way am i giving up on this season, i think that we do have a good enough team to win this divsion, we will just have to learn how to produce 4+ runs a game in other ways, aka: doing the small things that KW said would have won 5 of our last few recent games. we have a very solid rotation and our bullpen has been some what acceptable our team has the chance to win the division or wild card this season, and will be a very big threat next year as well
dasox24
line up: lead off hitter (preferably a short stop that hits for ave and has good obs with speed) That's not gonna be found in free agency, so we'd have to trade for one. And, how many leadoff SS are gonna be available through trade? Probably none. I think we're gonna have Harris still leading off next year, which is fine with me b/c I think next year Harris will break out since he'll have a full year of major league baseball under his belt. I hope your right. Even with a low batting average, his on base percentage is still acceptable. Someone has to get willie to run though when he's on base, he's to damn fast to be stationary. SoxAce
I like our team in 05. But I rather not talk about next year when this season isnt over yet. But just for fun I'll do this: 05' Rotation: Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland (look for one eigher a good #3 or #4 in FA or use one of Cotts/Diaz etc..) Line-up: Harris-2B Rowand-CF Thomas-DH Lee-LF Everett-RF Konerko-1B Uribe-SS Crede-3B Davis/Burke-C This is assuming Maggs/Valentin dont come back and who knows who we can pick up in FA (The Cat, Cruz Jr., Glaus etc..) Ace, if this team doesn't make the playoffs you can't bet there will be some major changes to the roster next year. I'd also rather wait for the offseason to worry about next year but you can bet if this team isn't in the playoffs, there will be some wholesale changes to make it more of an "ozzieball" team. hi8is
i think for the next few games, you do this since jose v. has 4 errors in 7 games and is 0 - 24 you, leading off rowand - CF harris - 2B LEE - LF paulie - 1B timo - rf crede - 3b borchard - dh uribe - ss burke/davis- C when everett gets back, whole line up changes
Jordan4life_2007
I haven't really thought about 2005. I don't want to. That's almost conceding 2004 as a waste.
SoxAce
Well, If we don't, IMO, KW should be fired. That's the only major change I'd make. FWIW.

Kenny has done a great job and if it wasn't for injuries this team would be up there with any team in the game. Unfortunately these injuries have further exploited how bad some of these guys are at the fundamentals. If this team doesn't get in to postseason play, the offense will be reworked around with a ton more speed and fundamentally sound players. He could have had some deals made for nothing in the offseason (I was praying for him to get Carlos Guillen when he was had at for nothing) and he could have gotten some trades without giving our best prospects (Borch instead of Reed) But it can be said that this team has underacheived since 2000 and it still has since he's been in office. No matter how much deals he's gonna make it cant stop this.

As far as Reed and Borch go, I myself probably would have kept reed but he likes borch better and your boy ain't exactly tearing it up jreedfan8. But I think this is just something we'll have to agree to disagree on.
SoxAce
your boy ain't exactly tearing it up jreedfan8. You must never reveal my secret identity... And your right. We will not agree on the same things which I do respect here from another fellow soxfan and great poster BTW, I might take the petition out already cause I have recieved news from minny himself that his dad is ok. They still need to run some test on him but looks good so far.

HuskyCaucasian
That's not gonna be found in free agency, so we'd have to trade for one. Let Mags go and use that money to steal Nomar from the CUbs in free agency! :fthecubs

I dont think people outside of the WhiteSox fan base realize just how much the injuries to Frank and Mags hurt this team. I find it interesting that this team can go out and score 10+ runs a game easily with them, but once they are out this team cant score 4. He's made some mistakes to be sure but on the whole he's done a lot to help the team. The thing that's really killing us right now is the injuries and KW can't be blamed for that one. NO, that is right you hear me saying no. how can anyone not mention the fact that we lost mags and thomas. that damage is severe. too much to over come. kw couldn't have seen that coming. and for that he does not to be fired..... however he does deserve to fire for other reasons. SoxFan1
I am very happy with the trades KW had made this season. He made the trades necessary to fill wholes while at the same time, secured some positions for the next few years. Great job KW and lets come abck and get those f***ing Twinkies!!!!!!!!!!!! :
Wedge
At this point, KW has given us a real chance to win the division this season. It really boils down to the players on the field, and frankly they have shown no heart this past week. Regardless of getting Contreras back, the Loaiza trade was a message trade: "buy into Ozzie, or you're gone." It also gave us a pitcher with a lot of upside. This guy could seriously be what we all wanted Colon to be. No matter what happens this season... 2005 is shaping up to be a dandy. With some improvements to the bullpen and with an upgrade at SS and 3B (either Crede steps up or is gone), we should be in pretty decent shape.
