Sox Undecided About Callups

I saw this article on chisox.com when looking for news on Jackson's release. I didn't see it posted within the past day as chisox.com posted it today.

If Ozzie truly thinks they can compete here and that they can make the team next year. I would have no problem with it. They aren't gonna get 130 at bats to ruin their rookie title next year(if it natters to anyone else but me).

Both won't be up as both are in the playoffs with their respected teams, but I would love to see these guys do well against major league pitching. But they'll have their chance. :)

kenny, do not start the arbitration clock on these guys now.

If they werent in their respective league's playoff chase i'd say go for it. Ya never know, a little big league experience could help their development. And i'd love to see how they do, although i doubt it'd be very good

Yeah I don't think they'd be very good either but might as well bring them up. They shouldn't sit Rowand for them though.

I really doubt they will be called up. I would like to see Bryant Nelson get a shot though, by transferring Maggs to the 60-day DL.

That's not a bad idea at all.

Of course, I wouldn't mind Baj filling Action's role. But, ya know, without the multitude of runs given up.

Sweeney shouldn't even come close to coming close to stepping out on the field against ML competition this year. 320 obp and 360 Slugging against A-ballers? Are you kidding me, he hasn't earned it. Let him develop right.

Anderson? I guess. Honestly, I don't expect any serious #s out of him until 2007 (his 2006 should flow like Magglio's 1998 did, with 2005 spent in AAA).

Bajenaru, Wunsch, Spidale, maybe Yofu and Munoz deserve a look.

Ozzie just wants to give them a look at the Bigs, get their feet wet. He knows it is not realistic. He loved them from ST and they can get their feet wet in big league play then. Anderson should be up Sept. of next year, Sweeney is further away.

Remember Ozzie saying in ST that if it were up to him he'd have kept Sweeney up then.

But consider:

Twins lose 8 of their next 10

Sox win 8 of their next 10.

Now you have a team only 1 game back in the loss column with 23 games to go, including 6 head-to-head. Shannon Stewart re-aggravates the injury, Sanatana succumbs to dead arm (everyone eventually does)....and the division is up for grabs again.

Unlikely, but crazier things have happened. Not to us, but to other teams.

Yeah, but he also said that he doesn't think they can come up. In other words he knows it isn't happening.

True, but it just shows how much Ozzie likes the kid

Eaxctly, no point at all bringing them up now. It's guys like Spidale who deserve a look though for sure.

Yofu

Why not bring up either Sweeney or Anderson. Other teams have done it with their talent when they have been out of it. How old is BJ Upton and how old was Miguel Cabrera last year. Not a lot of minor league AB's for either of those guys. Give the guys a shot and maybe they do something, maybe its a spark for them. Sweeney has a pure swing and had a great spring training. Get him in touch with Walk to see how he is progressing at high A and it may help him to keep focus for next year. The same thing with Anderson. Sit some of the old vets that we may either not have next year or may trade.

And the excuse of well they have the High class A playoffs or something isnt an excuse. The experience they will get playing 30 games up in the bigs is more than beating the Chipahaw Falls AeroBitmes of the Dog meat league for the championship.

The month of september should be a big audition. Valdez should play SS every game with Uribe playing 3rd and 2nd. Willie should get into the mix also. I would rather see what kind of spark these guys have in a no pressure situation than wait until July of next year and drop these guys for their major league debuts in the middle of a playoff race.

DH Everett and Carlos Lee.

Upton was killing the ball at AA and his short stop at AAA. Miggy was just a freak at AA, almost a one of a kind hitter. Sweeney doesn't deserve a call-up, he struggled early but is starting to come around now, the playoff experience will do him good. You could make a case for Anderson coming, but realistically Rowand and Lee are going to play everyday and the Sox hierachy still want a long look at Borch. I'd rather Anderson stay down at B-Ham where he gets regular playing time.

silly to even discuss Sweeney coming up.

He's not hitting for any consistent power in A ball.

Don't crush his confidence -- or foolishly make him believe he's nearly ready.

Anderson could use more time in the minors, too.

Let's be sensible here.

Spidale would deserve more of a look than either of those guys. He's had a very solid year.

Bingo! I hate to hear about guys being rushed up to Chicago. Let them learn how to play the game the right way in the minors. We need to slow down the Chi-town express out of the minors.
