Aaron Rowand and Johnny Damon

Featured Replies

Some news I found;

It won't be easy for the Red Sox to pursue free-agent CF Carlos Beltran if they re-sign RHP Pedro Martinez and C Jason Varitek, but expect them to try.

Beltran almost certainly will be a higher priority for the Yankees and possibly the Angels and other clubs, but one way for the Sox to create flexibility would be by trading CF Johnny Damon, whose value will be high as he comes off a big season and enters the final year of his contract. Damon, who turns 31 in November, will earn $8 million next season. ...

The White Sox need to address three of four infield positions, catcher and right field, but center fielder Aaron Rowand has emerged as a keeper, leading all AL center fielders with a .946 on-base/slugging percentage. A scout says Rowand and the Indians' Travis Hafner are the two most improved players in the American League. ...

Now what are the chances of acquiring Damon to be our leadoff hitter, and moving Rowand to right? If Mientkiewicz doesn't resign with the Red Sox, not sure if he's on a 1 or 2 year deal, maybe we could offer them Paul Konerko for Damon, with some prospects moving as well.

Konerko for damon and willamson does not sound impossible. Might be worth it for the red sox because they do not knopw how he will be coming off of surgery.

Edit. Oops willamson is a free agent. Maybe byung-hyun kim?

Nice Qwerty :lolhitting

Minkys***face has another year left on his contract...

Damon @ 8MIL is a big risk.

I read somewhere that Epstien has already indicated that BYK is not in the BoSox plans for next season... I think I heard him rumored with the Giants.

I'm not returning just yet, but Minky has an option for next season and it will most likely be excercised as he has already said he will take a paycut and Damon will not be traded, it's that simple.

The MLBPA won't allow Doogie just to take a pay cut... Ala the Arod fiasco -- All contracts have to be worth the agreed terms. Restructuring requires being inflation adjusted.

Exactly, but it's a team option and can be declined and then resigned for the amount that Minky and the Red Sox agreed upon.

I'm not trying to argue with you here, as contract info is very hard to come by, but from what I can gather, It appears that Doogies option year isn't until 2006...

Here's where I got the info -- This site is usually right on if it's listed in black. http://dugoutdollars.blogspot.com/2003_12_...rs_archive.html

Who knows it could have a clause that allows the option year earlier if thier is a trade.

You are correct 2006 is his option year. This site is also very good with contracts.

Hmm, interesting. I definitly trust you aswell as dugout dollars, but for some reason, mainly because it was talked about for weeks upon weeks in the Globe, Herald, talk radio, etc. I think that Minky's option is for next year.

Isn't Damon a scott boras guy?

Isn't Damon a scott boras guy?

It wouldn't matter who is agent is if he's traded with 1 yr left on his contract

With Rowand's power numbers [over .500 slg] I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox found a good CFer that Aaron could move to LF or Rf

Isn't Damon a scott boras guy?

yes

and does anyone have a site or list or something that has the listing of the players agents??? more specially boras client list..

We don't need another mental midget on this team. Most of his sucess was coming out of the bullpen in the National league. He's been horrible as a starter (6.17 ERA,) and was sent down to Pawtuckett this year, and was left off last year's playoff roster. He also signed a two year 10 million dollar deal. He don't need any overpaid relief pitchers on this team. Like I said earlier: :puke  :headshake :chair :nono

And on top of that with Shingo already in the pen, we don't need another sidearmer on the team. The thing that makes them effective is unfamiliarity, the more often you see them, the harder they are to hit.

Actually it does matter -- even if Damon has a year left on his deal.

JR certainly acts if he doesn't want any Boras guys around.

So I can't see Damon coming to Chicago. Just can't.

at 8 mil a yr, 311 avg, 15 hr, 16 sb and some 75+rbi's.

is he worth spending that money on him where you can use that money for a better use.

The Sox do have too many leadoff hitters who can hit .300, hit LH and steal bases.

He is a closer which 9-10 means that he can close in both the a.l. or n.l. Even he he can't close he will still be solid. Your gonna base this year on three starts? Makes no sense. Ss2k4 makes more sense when saying having another side armer would not be wise.

......and the fact he makes 6 million for next year. He just hasn't had sucess against AL teams. He sucked in the World Series in 2001 , he sucked in the all-star game in 2002 (Konerko almost took him deep,) and he sucks with Boston. Apparently Boston thought 3 starts was enough to ship his ass to AAA.

Didn't he get hurt and lose velocity?

Damon is one of those guys I'd like to have on the team.

He appears to care.

He appears to be a gamer.

I could be wrong, but we obviously have to change the

temperament of our team.

Right?
