September 22, 200421 yr .311 BA, .372 OBP, .430 SLG, .802 OPS I would like to see better power numbers from Ross, but I definitely can't complain with what he's done thus far. You gotta love his debut season on the South Side.

September 22, 200421 yr yeah if we can get some good players in a konerko deal and we add a hitter or 2 in the off season im all for having ross gload the starting 1B of our chicago white sox next year he deserves it
September 22, 200421 yr I think the main statistic that I have to be tracking from gload is his OBP... He's always hit. He's always had some power. But he's never really had a great batting eye. In the event that pauly is gone next season. It will be Gloads OBP more than his SLG that will matter to this team. A couple of games ago he walked twice, and I was pleased with his strike zone judgement, but then I realized he was hitting in front of JV, and they were actually pitching around Gload to get to JV... Tonights 2 BB's were earned, though Lohse was wild. Gload was hitting with Pauly behind him, and I'm sure no pitcher was looking to face pauly in that situation.
September 22, 200421 yr Gload has proven himself to be a quality hitter and decent all around player, if you forget about RF. I don't know if he's starter quality, but he could hold his own I believe.

Then throw him a couple of outside sliders and a high fast ball, HE gone!!! so predictable

September 22, 200421 yr it is not that hard to play a corner OF position. i'm not sure why he sucks so bad.
September 22, 200421 yr it is not that hard to play a corner OF position. i'm not sure why he sucks so bad. it isn't that he sucks, it's just that he hasn't had time to really play there. remember when Lee started playing left? he wasn't very slick out there but if you watched him you know he could've been good enough for it, and he is now. same for Gload. he can't play the OF right now, but an offseason of work out there plus spring training and he will be pretty good.
September 22, 200421 yr well, you would hope so.....but shouldn't he have been working out in the OF all year...like during batting practice? i dunno...

There are a couple of big differences in that comparision. One Lee was switched from 3B to the OF and had much less time to adjust. Also Gload has played much more OF and has been doing it longer than Carlos had, when he got to the bigs.
September 22, 200421 yr One thing about his OBP this season, most of his AB's have been in a reserve or pinch hitting role. He's going to be less patient in limited AB's, trying to prove himself, get a hit. Most players are going to be more aggressive in this kind of role. With a starting spot, he probably will be more selective and patient. [With the recent regular playing time, he's drawn more walks]. One thing about Gload is he can foul off good "pitcher pitches" and offspeed stuff. It's when he gets high heat that he misses [like most guys, who are being aggressive see the high pitches and think they can catch up to them]
September 22, 200421 yr why not put Gload at RF next year? Left handed batter in the lineup, cheap and we can use the Maggs money for a SS and another SP. Lineup 1) Harris-2B (I'm not giving up yet) 2) Rowand-CF 3) Konerko-1B 4) Thomas-DH 5) Lee-LF 6) Gload-RF 7) FILL IN THE BLANK HERE-SS 8) Crede-3B 9) Davis-C Rotation 1) Garcia 2) Buehrle 3) FILL IN THE BLANK HERE 4) Contreras 5) FILL IN THE BLANK HERE

The problem with the Sox offense is that it is too one-dimensional. Konerko, Lee, and Thomas are all almost identical players. The Sox need to add players with higher BA, OBP, and speed. I don't like Harris in the leadoff spot. I could MAYBE live with him in the 9th spot, but he hasn't done anything to prove that he would be a decent leadoff hitter. I also don't like the bottom of the order. I do like Gload, but we still don't know what to expect from him in a full season. I really don't want to see both Uribe and Harris starting next year. I can live with 1(Uribe), but not both especially if one of them has to bat at the top of the order. I would love to get rid of Crede. He is another one-dimensional player. You also have to realize that the lineup/rotation you have listed costs about 50M already, and that doesn't include 2 more starters, the bullpen, or the bench. The fact is that the Sox need to make some changes, and I think you will see the Sox be very active this offseason. Don't be surprised if either Lee or Konerko is dealt, as well as underachievers like Garland and Crede.
September 23, 200421 yr 9/22 .316 BA, .376 OBP, .434 SLG, .810 OPS Proving just a little bit more everyday whoever doubts that he can be a starter in the major leagues.
September 23, 200421 yr Proving just a little bit more everyday whoever doubts that he can be a starter in the major leagues. Well, I have my doubts. I feel Gload as a starter can go either way, with the best possible outcome being "acceptable".
September 23, 200421 yr Without Lee in the lineup, and Gload playing in the outfield, this team has still put up runs consistently. I'm definitely open to trading Konerko or Carlos for some good pitching, in a J.D Drew type of package deal that the Cardinals got to fill extra needs. Furcal and Cruz has been talked about before, but I'd think we'd hav to take on some more salary.
September 23, 200421 yr Well, I have my doubts. I feel Gload as a starter can go either way, with the best possible outcome being "acceptable". I think the worst he will be is an "average" first baseman... He possesses the skills to surprise a lot of people. And if he is playing everyday due to Paulie's departure, I'd have to assume we got a good return on Palie, i.e. a good starter/dominant reliever. Gload + Stud pitcher > Konerko + Gload as a super-sub.
September 23, 200421 yr Author I'd have to assume we got a good return on Palie, i.e. a good starter/dominant reliever. I definitely agree. He's really increasing his trade value with this power surge at the end of the season. Has anyone else noticed how he changed his approach at the plate? He rests the bat on his shoulder now and leans way back almost until the pitcher is completely through his windup. Whatever works man.

I have stated that depending on the package received, that moving Konerko and inserting Gload at 1B could very well be advantageous to the Sox.
September 24, 200421 yr Author 9/23 .320 AVG, .378 OBP, .450 SLG, .828 OPS Notice the upward trend? Finally showed some power tonight with the solo shot.

Qwerty my friend, please give up on the Konerko trade stuff. If it happens KW is certifiably crazy and should be committed. Gload can't replace Paulie, but can fill the role of reserve quite well.
