WHarris1
Interesting On the job at the GM meetings this week in Key Biscayne, Fla., Williams did not return repeated phone calls Sunday and Monday. Didn't the GM meetings start today?
southsider2k5
Interesting names mentioned out of the pen Boston's Scott Williamson, Texas' Jeff Nelson and Cleveland's Bob Wickman head a deep group of candidates. No one deal breaking, but all 3 would be a lynchpin for the Sox. I know KW almost had Williamson before...

I know KW almost had Williamson before... Williamson is out for the entire year with tommy-john surgery. Who knows how nelson will be after his injury, wickman is contemplating retirement. I don't expect wickman to retire although i don't expect anything much better than a 4 era from him next year.
Chisoxfn
How long is Williamson gonna be out for? I was under the assumption he would be back at one point, but I must be wrong. I wouldn' want any of the others unless it was a base minimum salary with incentives.
greg775
f Uribe winds up at second base, the White Sox can pursue a talented group of free-agent shortstops, featuring the Indians' Omar Vizquel, the Cardinals' Edgar Renteria and the Twins' Cristian Guzman. He could miss all of next season. During surgery, it was discovered Williamson pitched the last month with a completely torn ulnar collateral ligament, mangled cartilage ripped from the bone on the outer part of the elbow and several bone chips and loose bodies within the cavity of the joint. "I couldn't believe what I saw," said Dr. Tim Kremchek. "It looked like a grenade had gone off in there. The damage was far worse that the MRIs or any examination alluded to." Williamson, set to become a free agent, will probably sign an incentive-laden two-year deal with some team. From rotoworld.

I knew he was supposed to pitch right at teh end of the season with the Red Sox. Thanks for that update qwert. That really sucks, but it really makes that Daily Herald article look stupid, unless of course Kenny is thinking two years from now when he could potentially have Williamson at a very good value (personally it be one of the rare times where Kenny ever showed any foresight, because he seems like one of those one year at a time guys). WHarris1
Can anyone explain the line I quoted in the original post?
Chisoxfn
Can anyone explain the line I quoted in the original post? Ya, I think it further proves the fact that this writer is a fool and that their editor got caught being lazy. I mean the Williamson thing is pretty much useless with him out for the year (basically me reading between the line, tells me that most of us here know more about the Sox then this writer). Seriously, what a blatant error and lie. Obviously you have no idea if KW is working on something when you didn't even realize KW wasn't at the GM meetings on Monday. The Critic
Well, that proves Williamson is a "grinder" anyway....wow, what a mess inside that arm.
jackie hayes
Well, the Rotoworld/BH piece suggests Williamson could be out all of next year, or he could be ready to pitch (ie, finished w/ rehab) in 9 or 10 months, meaning he could be ready at the end of the 2005 season. IMO that's a good risk for the Sox. You're not going to get a better reliever, cheaper, than Williamson on a 2-year deal.
