AddisonStSox
With the winter meetings coming quickly and a few key free agents already off that market, Kenny has his work cut out for him. Which players (via free agency or via trade) is Kenny about to go after. Let's attempt a position by position breakdown. My thoughts... C- Stand pat. Maybe aquire a free agent a little later. Zaun, Blanco. 1B- Believe it or not, if Paulie is dealt, maybe Kenny starts to think about Delgado. That said, I think Gload will be our opening day first baseman. 2B- Big concern. We can't afford to have Willie be our starting second baseman. Polanco, Walker, Reese SS- Uribe's the man for now, but maybe Garciaparra, Cabrera, or Renteria are sleepers. 3B- Joe McGoo Crede. LF- Carlos Lee CF- Rowand. Maybe Posednik or the like via trade. RF- Dye, Dellucci, Hidalgo. Can't forget about Jurassic or Escobar though. Winning Ugly
C-stand pat my azz. We need SOMEBODY, anybody now. How about we enter the Lieberthal sweepstakes? Jason Phillips is expected to be dealt, why not try him? Injuries and a new position slowed him last season, but he's a good contact hitter, and what we need. hi8is
i could also see us signing normar to a one year deal and moving uribe over to 2B... thus, having harris on the bench/spot starting
Punch and Judy Garland
We had Delgado at the deadline until he rejected moving outside toronto. I would have doubted it but given that there is past interest I guess you never know for sure.

KW get off your s*** for brians and trade Pauly to Baltimore. Get 3 players we need to fix this team, Then trade Anderson for Posednik. There our OF and IF would be set. Now for SP, Suck it up sign Lowe as your # 3. Sign Jeff Nelson in the pen.. WE have a team then suckas.
AngelasDaddy0427
I disagree about Willie at 2B. I think that signing another SS or 2B cripples this team when we already have a great defensive infield in Willie and Juan with both improving offensively for about 1 Mil combined. The only holes we need to fill are SP, bullpen, a Utility Infielder, and a leadoff hitting OF.

Chisoxfn
At catcher I'd like to see the Sox look at Pyrzinski or however you spell it. I don't give a crap if he was on the Twins. He's a very good catcher for 5 million and a leader. Those rumors about him being lazy were crap coming out of SF. He did a good job after his slow start with the Giants. And AJ is >>>>>>> Ben Davis/Jamie Burke

striker
I don't know why everyone likes Posendnik so much. Especially over Rowand? I don't think so. Rowand is younger, better hitter, more power and just as cheap.

I don't care if you steal seventy bases or not you are not a lead-off hitter with a .313 obp. At the very least a .340 obp can lead-off. Usually want higher than a .350 obp for your lead-off hitter. I know someone will say again that podsednik has a career .343 obp but he is never gonna do that again if you believe me or not. He was never a good hitter in the minors and i do not see him suddenly becoming one.

AddisonStSox
He is in no way better than willie harris. Never said he was. Kenny has shown interest. I was just trying to think of a few free agents Kenny might consider bringing in. Should I have mentioned Jeff Kent?

Should I have mentioned Jeff Kent? I just hate pokey reese he is terrible. I want nothing to fo with him. Valdez could be a better back-up for dirt cheap. Jeff kent has interest in the red sox and it is mutual but i have heard he is kinda far down on his list.

WE have a team then suckas. I have never seen a pitcher coming off a season with a 5.42 ERA get so much attention and hype. Lets ignore all of his stats and spend big dollars on him because he is a groundball pitcher and pitched well in a couple of games during the postseason. Lets ignore the fact that opponents light Lowe up with a .299 batting average against him. Lets ignore that down right terrible 1.61 WHIP he posted. Lets ignore the .786 OPS posted against. Lets ignore the below average 1.48 K/BB ratio he posted. Lets ignore the fact that he was only 14-12 on a team that was 34 games above .500 and had arguable the best offense in baseball supporting him. Lets ignore the fact that he has gotten progressively worse over the past 2 seasons. But at least he is a groundball pitcher. Does that alone make him a good pitcher? The funny think is that Anthrax makes fun of everyone elses ideas/plans, but he thinks the Sox should sign Lowe. He thinks that will lead them to the promise land. Mark my word, the Sox should stay away from Lowe. He has a false market value that was created for some reason, and some team is going to drastically overpay for his services. Potentially paying him front of the rotation money for bottom of the rotation production. Some teams can afford to take those risks, but the Sox aren't one of them. There are much better options for a similar/less price.

YASNY
And who do you suggest lead off? I say Frank since his his OBP is .434 :rolly There is a perfect example of the type of response I was talking about that totally alienates other posters. Qwerty made a damn good point (If you feel OBP for a leadoff hitter is not a good point, you have other issues) and you responded with a condescending smart ass remark that added nothing whatsoever to the discussion.
