December 8, 200421 yr KW needs to offer Odalis a nice contract right now! I have been wanting this guy and now it looks like he could be one of our only options. Now it isn't about whats going to fit perfectly its about what will be best for the team.
December 8, 200421 yr Gms are smarter than that, they know to not look into wins too much. I am willing to bet he gets eight million on average per year. He is a young lefty who is not as bad on the road as people make him out to be. I know i would not mind having to lefties in the rotation. I have no problem picking him up either, but I have watched him quite a bit and while I'm a fan of his stuff, if he were on the Sox I'd be very scared about his durability. Also, in regards to GM's. Lets remember that Kris Benson is going to be getting more then 7 million a year for the next 3 years and that teams are going to give Derek Lowe 7-8 mill a year long term simply because he pitched well in the postseason. They are willing to ignore the fact that he had a crappy year. I long said I liked Lowe at 4 mill a year, 5 at the most, but after his postseason that possibility went down the drain.
December 8, 200421 yr When will get official confrimation on the declines in arbitration for RObbie, Maggs, and Schoensuck? Should that be available soon? Given the recent news, personally I'm hoping the Sox offered Scho arbitration.
December 8, 200421 yr You keep saying that we are glad we didnt get him. So what praytell do you see as the answer for our 5th starter retard-a-thon we march out there to go 1-15 last year. Who do you think we will go after and how much money do you think it will cost. Beats me. I hope he looks into Lieber and Perez first. Maybe Derek Lowe, see what he gets. On a lower tier, Paul Byrd wouldn't be bad. I used to think highly of Hideo Nomo, although the Sox would have to be confident he could recover. And even then, he walks a lot of people. That's just top of my head, and before we see who's nontendered. (I've been trying to find some speculation on this -- anyone seen an article with good educated guesses?) It would be great to get a middle of the rotation starter, but getting a boring bottom of the rotation guy, a pure innings-eater, at a low price would also solidify the team, and if the salaries really do explode, it wouldn't be a bad option.

Like i said earlier today the mets did this to raise the price for the yankee$. Since they we be signing two to three starters.
December 8, 200421 yr Given the recent news, personally I'm hoping the Sox offered Scho arbitration. as I'm choking on these words.... I.... agree..... (damn, that's how bad this off-season is shaping up) BTW, it's on another thread, but KW is supposed to be on Boers and Bernstein tomorrow... someone please post a report (i would weep if I listened to him) "um, you know, these guys didn't fit into our plan... I'm extremely dissapointed about what has happened"
December 8, 200421 yr I think Lowe is at a $9 million minimum. Boras is his agent and will talk about the 21 wins of 02 and the postseason. If detroit is goign to pay my boy Steve-o $8 million a year, who knows what they'd pay Lowe or Pavano.

I wouldn't mind Byrd, although I'm thinking he's more of a fly ball pitcher. Still he knows how to pitch and at the right price, and I'm assuming he's only going to get better another year removed from surgery.

Given the strides he made when healthy last year, he's going to be so much better when he gets it in his mind that he can be a dominant reliever and I do mean DOMINANT. Resign Scho as a reliever and pickup a hard throwing righty (maybe even via trade) for the pen and I'll be a happy camper because I think the Sox will have cheaply filled a major void that can help carry a team to the postseas (ie the bullpen).

December 8, 200421 yr Ok first no boras * bye bye lowe) second kenny will be looking trade thats why their gm meetings
December 8, 200421 yr Kenny notes for weekend tried to trade like despreate man boy, there's a chance I'm going to come off like a huge windsock this week, because either KW is going to sit on his hands or make the dumb move to end all dumb moves this weekend at the winter meetings after 3 dissapointments this early (RJ, Wright, Vizquel) GM's are going to try and take advantage of KW So what, Garland, PK, Sweeny, B-Mac for Jamie Moyer?

Still he knows how to pitch and at the right price, and I'm assuming he's only going to get better another year removed from surgery. Just imagine the tigers or the injuns strollin into our launching pad to face byrd. We need a hard thrower or someone with real deceptive stuff. These feel guys are going to get killed. I mean Mark Buerhle has real good stuff and got lit up for 7-8 runs when his stuff got bad agains the injuns.
December 8, 200421 yr "um, you know, these guys didn't fit into our plan... I'm extremely dissapointed about what has happened" God, you are right on with that. I've always been a huge supporter of KW, but after last offseason and the starts of this one, I'm frustrated, I really don't have the words right now.
December 8, 200421 yr Maybe it's another year of Flying under the Radar..... The Sox should just change their names to "The Chicago Stealth Bombers"
December 8, 200421 yr IF JR is DUMB enough to allow "through thick and thin" as a marketing strategy, "flying udner the radar" is certainly possible.

Like KW in a flight suit a'la President Bush, at a podium with Miguel Cairo and a huge "Mission Accomplished" banner behind him
December 8, 200421 yr * Time fly under the raday* ( swoosh) Bruce Levine : So what are you planning this weekend? Kenny: I am flying under the radar right now and I really don't want to comment

December 8, 200421 yr New York Times is reporting that Lieber is going to sign a 3 year deal with the Phills.
