December 7, 200421 yr 1 year, 8 mil base, up to 11 if incentives are met. Decent deal for both sides, considering Nomar's injuries last year.
December 7, 200421 yr yea, one year deal. no terms were disclosed One less team after Renteria..........
December 7, 200421 yr I was hoping it was the other way around -- Today was the last day the Cubs had to negotiate with Nomar -- I think 1-year of Nomar @ $8M was a better fit for this team than 4+ years of Renteria @ $7+M -- So I'm disappointed
December 7, 200421 yr I saddens me to see the Cubs resign him. I didn't care where he went aslong as it wasn't with the Cubs.

December 7, 200421 yr I would rather have Edgar long-term than Nomar for one year, but I guess that's a toss-up argument. However, with this signing I think the Cubs really need to sign Beltran or their off-season will be puzzling to me. They didn't get a big named closer (I don't care if they end up with Kolb, he's good, but not the big name), and now they won't pursue Renteria. So basically the Cubs are prepared to bring back virtually the same line-up that failed to close a wild card birth. They really only have one open position and that's OF somewhere (They're not moving Sosa, and if they do they'll be choking on his money this year anyway). However, Beltran's no guarantee to them, they'll have to outbid the Angels and NY, and atleast pay him 13.5 a year that Houston offered him.

Kolb's not a big name b/c he's in Milwaukee, but he pitched as well last season as any "name" closer. And I think a full season of Prior, if he's healthy, would close the rest of the gap. I hope not, but that's what I'm thinking if I'm the Cubs.

It can score a bunch of them, but when it comes to trying to create them it still will struggle and fail in close games.
December 7, 200421 yr lol, look at Chicagosports.com and the blurb about Nomar resigning (I don't have registration so I can't get the full link), it's like 'Nomar enjoyed his stay so much he resigned' Yeah, that's why it took 5 hours before the arbitration deadline for him to sign, a one year deal too. He wasn't taking all that time looking for a long-term deal or a better one-year deal that nobody was offering... Pure Cubune spin (if hell freezes over and the Sox sign Renteria i wouldn't be suprised if Cubune and Mariotti say he was the Cubs 2nd choice and the White Sox got stuck with him because Nomar wouldn't come here or some similar BS)

December 8, 200421 yr Best of luck to you Nomar, but the grass isn't always greener on the otherside, my freind. 60 million guaranteed, or 8... you decide.

December 8, 200421 yr Before I moved here I would have cared. Now it's about as interesting as if Milwaukee signed him. Although, if they had him two years ago, they're in the WS.
December 8, 200421 yr Ha, aren't you happy he didn't except that now r and w. The word happiness doesn't even explain it. I am ecstatic. Thank you Arn Tellem.
December 8, 200421 yr Man, this is f***ing bulls***. I can see the headline for tomorrow’s newspaper. “Nomar back with Cubs.” I just hope KW can get someone quickly before Christmas. The name Renteria on the back of a White Sox jersey would be sweet.
December 8, 200421 yr and todd Walker,Man iam getting pissed i wish the sox would get off there dead asses :fthecubs
