December 21, 200421 yr How much will Paul get in FA if he puts up a 285 35-40 homers 90-110 RBI season or something like last year. Glaus Money maybe? Sexon money? Do we believe that JR will sign him. And he will not give some big home town discount so please discount that. So if by May he doesnt sign do you think that JR will trade him midseason or risk losing him for just draft picks. Will he even offer arbitration? I ask this because everyone is stating we cant live without kong next year because of losing Lee. But I suggest that we will lose him anyways. So lets get something for him. Or sign him and pay the money. But after Maggs being almost traded last year in the offseason I cannot see JR taking on a big contract from a 1B.
December 21, 200421 yr Author 8 million is the most i would pay him and that is still too much imo. At 8 Million I think he gawn. I think he will get minimum 10 mill if he puts up similiar numbers to last year.
December 21, 200421 yr 8 million is the most i would pay him and that is still too much imo. You really are JR undercover, you won't pay for anyone.. exepct over pay for Polanco
December 21, 200421 yr You really are JR undercover, you won't pay for anyone.. exepct over pay for Polanco You really think konerko is worth ten million dollars? In this market maybe, but not to me. What polanco got is not overpaying.
December 21, 200421 yr At 8 Million I think he gawn. I think he will get minimum 10 mill if he puts up similiar numbers to last year. Why should he? His road splits are sickening and he hits alot of homeruns. Obp and ops are not very exciting at all.
December 21, 200421 yr You really think konerko is worth ten million dollars? In this market maybe, but not to me. I didn't say that did I quit putting words into my mouth What polanco got is not overpaying. For a back-up INF.. Yes he is
December 21, 200421 yr I didn't say that did I quit putting words into my mouth For a back-up INF.. Yes he is By saying i am jr undercover is implying i am cheap for thinking he should only get 8 million. So you clearly think he deserves more. Polanco can start on about 20 teams or more just so you know.
December 21, 200421 yr You really think konerko is worth ten million dollars? In this market maybe, but not to me. What polanco got is not overpaying. He is definitly worth $10 million his obp and ops are above average. If he can get about 40 HR and 120 RBI 2 years there is no reason not to give him $10M. Those stats are up there with big names (ortiz, guerrero, MRam, and Sheffield).

Those stats are up there with big names (ortiz, guerrero, MRam, and Sheffield). He is no where close to any of the players you mentioned year in year out. You give him ten million dollars or more you are gonna regret it.

Those stats are up there with big names (ortiz, guerrero, MRam, and Sheffield). Unfortunately, the reason Paully's numbers are so is because he plays in such a hitter's haven. Look at his road splits -- pretty terrible. A star player deserves an eight-figure paycheck, and while Konerko is a nice player, he sure isn't a star...
December 21, 200421 yr It all depends on what other people do. Koney & Lee were both in the top 20 in the AL last year. For accomplished players that's 10M+ range. If Koney does it again he'll probably get that. But if he should fall down into the top 30 range then no. I think his RBI totals will be key. If he produces 120+ then yep .. 10M/yr. A Sexson like deal for sure. But if it's just over a 100, then no.
December 21, 200421 yr What i was saying is that he compares to them in HR and RBI. Also i think that if he can get those same stats 2 yrs in a row he will be able to get $10M but no more than that.
December 21, 200421 yr Konerko will most likely hit 35 to 40 again. But if you put him in safeco he would hit 20-25 and i am being generous, with an ops right around .800. Anyone else think so?

December 21, 200421 yr I still think he can hit 30-40 at safeco. His homers are not cheapies by any margin. Richie sexson can hit 30-40. Not paul konerko, remember before last year his career high was 32.
December 21, 200421 yr I still think he can hit 30-40 at safeco. His homers are not cheapies by any margin. Howcome his homerun numbers, RBI numbers -- actually, all of his numbers -- are down playing away from the Cell, then?
December 22, 200421 yr Who else is a FA, which teams need a DH / 1B guy, how the Sox finish next season, all come into play. If he improves on 2004, If there is a smaller FA class, I could easily see a 4/40 contract in his future. Maybe a 5/50.

Don't think it would ever happen personally.
December 22, 200421 yr A five year deal for konerko would be asinine. Don't think it would ever happen personally. Look at some of the deals handed out this off season, and tell me again if you think it couldn't happen....
December 22, 200421 yr A five year deal for konerko would be asinine. Don't think it would ever happen personally. I forgot, baseball owners never hand out asinine contracts. I didn't claim it was a good deal for the ball club that signs him to it. Remember, in free agent bidding the winning team always overpays. They bid more than another team. Sometimes it pans out, other times it doesn't.

I just think if renteria didn't get one konerko definately will not. Long term contracts seem to be disappearing more now more so.
December 22, 200421 yr Unbelievable. Home - Konerko homers once every 9.59 at-bats. Away - Konerko homers once every 23.75 at-bats.
