December 30, 200421 yr any word on years and money? No details in the noon update... only that other teams have also made formal offers
December 30, 200421 yr OK, am I nuts, or was there not a quote from KW recently in which he said AJ didn't fit into our plans???
December 30, 200421 yr Flying under the radar with that comment?? lol, this may not have to be in green
December 30, 200421 yr OK, am I nuts, or was there not a quote from KW recently in which he said AJ didn't fit into our plans??? He mentioned that how it happend about 2 weeks ago, but Ofman and Levine are now saying the Sox have renewed interest in AJ.
December 30, 200421 yr OK, am I nuts, or was there not a quote from KW recently in which he said AJ didn't fit into our plans??? Kenny is in stealth mode rememeber??? He just said that to throw other GM's off-track.... :rolly CWSOX45
December 30, 200421 yr He mentioned that how it happend about 2 weeks ago, but Ofman and Levine are now saying the Sox have renewed interest in AJ. possibly he doesn't see a 2nd basemen signing with the Sox, and he still wants to improve the offense and thinks AJ is the best option...
December 30, 200421 yr The one thing I will speculate on is this. When the Sox have made there signings there haven't been rumors of them offering the particular guys contracts, more like straight up signings. I guess El Duque started more as a rumor, but kind of a rumor of it being a done deal.
December 30, 200421 yr What time did this report come in? If Bruce and the Score are reporting it, then I guess it's a possibility. I've never liked A.J., he's such an asshole, but if it helps the team then do it. One more question, how much was A.J. making with the Giants before being released? CWSOX45

December 30, 200421 yr The only thing that makes me a little nervous about AJ is his defense and with pitchers like Contreras and Garcia, you need a pretty good defensive catcher back there to stop any pass balls....
December 30, 200421 yr Or it could have been the Sox were targeting other players and those moves fell through so they went back to AJP.
December 30, 200421 yr With these new comments, I think its safe to say the remaining "piece of the puzzle" will either be AJP or a middle-infielder. Its as simple as that. Now, we just have to wait and see. If AJP is signed, I think Kenny will pack it up and call it an off-season. If a middle-infielder is signed (Iguchi,Cora,Cairo), I think Kenny will pack it up an call it an off-season. Look for one of either AJP, Iguchi, Cora, or Cairo to be brought in.
December 30, 200421 yr The only thing that makes me a little nervous about AJ is his defense and with pitchers like Contreras and Garcia, you need a pretty good defensive catcher back there to stop any pass balls.... AJ is one of the best in the league at blocking pitches in the dirt.
December 30, 200421 yr So how much money does KW have to work with? I haven't been keeping up with our budget, if someone could direct me to another thread with the details or just fill me in it would help me get an idea of how much we have left to spend. CWSOX45

December 30, 200421 yr AJ is one of the best in the league at blocking pitches in the dirt. Good point. The arm isn't great, but he can block those pitches. That is huge, especially for Contreras and his splitter...
December 30, 200421 yr AJ is one of the best in the league at blocking pitches in the dirt. Really?? I thought I read somewhere that his defense wasn't all that great...maybe I am mistaken... wouldn't be the 1st time though
December 30, 200421 yr Really?? I thought I read somewhere that his defense wasn't all that great...maybe I am mistaken... wouldn't be the 1st time though Its splitting hairs somewhat, but his throwing arm sucks. He calls a good game, and stops a lot of balls in teh dirt.
