Bears Eye Turner

Featured Replies

ESPN 1000 is reporting that the Bears have an eye on Ron Turner to replace the recently fired O-Coordinator.

Wouldn't mind that one bit...

I would prefer Randy Walker of Northwestern, but, it wouldn't kill me...

fired illini head coach...

But please, no one think or RT as the Illini coach, that will have nothing to do with him being our OC.

He doesnt know talent, cant recruit, and has no idea about defense.

He will be fine as an OC, get him in here!

wasnt their some rumors of us getting the chargers OC if that could happen id go for it give him as much as Lovie contract wise if thats what it will take to get a real OC in here.... and if Lovie ever gets fired our next head coach better be a guy who knows what to do on offense... we can just keep Rivera as our DC

I'd take Turner, the bears had a good offense with him as the OC. During the years he was here previously the bears put up some pretty decent stats or at least thats what I recall.

RT's major problem was recruiting and getting the right players into his system but if you notice most Illini players that have entered the league recently have been on OFFENSE which means he must be doing something right and he did do well before and has the experience needed

I hated the guy as the coach of our team because he couldn't recruit and didn't know a thing about defense. If his defensive coordinator didn't get the job done, the defense sucked.

But if there is one thing RT can do, it's run a pro style offense. He can develop a QB...ok not this year, but Kittner...and he has had some fine receivers under him. He is a terrible college coach, but a pretty damn good offensive coordinator, in my opinion. Don't connect Illinois' woes with the possibility of Turner being an offensive coordinator, because that's just ignorant.

Was he the OC when Erik Kramer broke all the franchise records? I don't think that was Crowton (SP? I mean the former BYU coach)...

That was Turner.

In four seasons working with the Chicago Bears, Turner coordinated an offense that improved every season, breaking the club record for passing yards with 233 yards per game in 1995 and producing a 1,000-yard receiver and rusher in the same season. The diversity of the Turner offense in Chicago found success under four different quarterbacks in Jim Harbaugh (1993), Steve Walsh (1994), Erik Kramer (1995) and Dave Krieg (1996). In 1994, the Bears led the NFC Central Division for much of the regular season and defeated division rival Minnesota, 35-18, in a first-round playoff game.
