From the Detroit News this morning....  this makes Mike Kiley's Cub "spin" almost seem rational...

Title of article:  Tigers, other Central teams quiet in off-season

http://www.detnews.com/2005/tigers/0501/10/D04-54964.htm

WoW... thats a pretty annoying little article.

"they signed A.J. Pierzynski... but hes no Pudge Rodriquez"

ouch... what place did they finish in with pudge last year?

The Sox also aren't paying AJ $10M a season like the Tigers are paying I-Rod.

I'll take AJ for $2.25M with an extra $7.75M to spend elsewhere ANYDAY over I-Rod. Anybody who wouldn't is a moron IMO.

I like how they state that in THE CELL, you need offense and nothing mroe. This shows how ignorant some sports writers are when it comes to the fine points of baseball such as defense and speed.

Sounds like a bitter message board poster, instead of a major urban sportswriter to me...

LMAO. That guy knows nothing.

You know who really HAS been quiet?

That dips*** sportswriter in Kansas City, Joe Whateverhisnamewas.

He got pretty cocky during KC's fluke season...

I'd actually take Pudge, my being a moron duly noted

Exactly. I mean us having one of the best offenses in the AL the last three years and not doing anything should of been obvious to anyone who knew anything about baseball.

I'd actually take Pudge, my being a moron duly noted

AS would I.. Pudge can change a whole teams makeup.. Look at the difference with the Tigers from 03 to 04, and the same thing can be said about the Marlins from 03-04.

WE GOT TROY PERCIVAL WHICH BOLSTERS THE PEN.....

the sox got some players who help their defense speed and bullpen, an injury prone starter and a catcher not named PUDGE....BUT THEY LOSE CARLOS LEE AND MAGGLIO ORDONEZ WHO HAVEN'T GOTTEN THEM ANYWHERE THE LAST 4 YEARS!!!!!!

LMFAO.....pitiful Tiger writer.....but i look at it as....What else could he have wrote about the Tigers??? They haven't been making moves and they aren't a team to get excited about, so he wrote about the other teams in the AL central...lol :lolhitting

I think anyone would. The point is more for the big city columnist who has to show his inferiority complex by pointing out that AJP isn't IRod. Funny I didn't see him mention that Troy Percival isn't Eric Gagne either?

SPORTS JOURNALISM!

Oh I'm not defending the columnist. I was just addressing the person who said only a moron would take I-Rod and his deal over AJ and his. I just know that the Marlins would not be two-time champs without him and that he is a very special player.

I wish there was a major paper in Chicago talking up a team that is dependable and competitive. The tigers lost almost 120 games two years ago and this little rah rah piece makes them look good. Imagine what a nice spin article would do now for the Sox with ticket sales and Soxfest coming up. Look at the maggs story in the Trib today. Sounds like maggs is falling all over himself trying to get back to Chicago. He said he is in the best shape of his life and is pain free and wants to play with the cub. On the other hand, the Sox..................... :sleep

This guy writes for a Detroit paper it is his job to promote the city and the team. For some reason this is lost on half of the baseball teams in Chicago related to the press for some reason

When it comes to ignorant sportswriters I dont think we can talk a lot of smack to fans in other cities.
