Married, 3 years.

Dinner and a gift.

Married, 5 years. 2 daughters.

 

I told my wife "Happy Valentine's Day" as I was leaving this morning. She laughed and said "Same to you." The day is a joke and we both view it as such.

Married 9 years this March, with a couple of little White Sox fans to show for it.

 

We're two weeks away from closing on a house, so about every cent we hhavve is tied up in that right now. Flowers, a card, and a nice home-cooked dinner will be the extent of it.

Married 2 years and both feel the Holiday is a joke as well.

I think I'd love this "holiday" if we actually got the day off.

Married 4 1/2 years... we do a little something, not much though. Our anniversary is a much bigger deal.

Fiance, 7 years, pajamas and flowers, eggplant parmigiano at Amici's Fine Italian Cuisine, oooooohhhhh yeeeeeaahhhhh.

I got my girlfriend a yankee candle, a card and some perfume, hopefully she'll be happy with that.

 

She's not the mushy type, so I think she'll be more than fine with it.

 

And yes, it is a ridiculous holiday.

I am not big on V-day - just another day to me.

 

1) We are working. We spent the weekend in bed - not a good way we are both sick. He has some stomach thing and I have a head cold that is killing me

 

2) will be married 10/29 of this year. We got back together 3/23/01, got engaged on 11/14/03.

 

3) Dinner was supposed to be homemade stuffed manicotti, but since we were sick we had chicken soup and orange juice.

 

4) He got me an awesome card (it was funny, sweet and absolutely perfect) and a beanie baby hamster. He keeps wanting me to tell him something else to buy, but I don't want anything else. I am getting him a Ricky Rudd/Woodbrothers cap.

Married 12 years.

Daughter, 5 years old.

DVD of "The Notebook" as a gift.

I don't hate the day, even though it's the anniversary of my father's death.

I have my Mom over today, too - gonna cook for the girls tonight.

To me, it's another reason ( contrived or not ) to let them know I love them, and I can't hate that.

Girlfriend, 8 months.

Did the whole flower/chocolate thing plus a few little other things.

not that big of a deal.

Do most of you hate this day? Not really. The only thing that I don't like is paying $50 for flowers that might last a week.

Married? Yes, four months

Plans? A dozen red roses, a card, a bottle of cabernet, and some sweet lovin'. We'll go out to dinner sometime next week when getting a table won't be such a pain.

Single for 2 years now, and today and last Valentine's Day are the only times I'm 100% happy about not having a girlfriend. I just can't stand the holiday, but it is my friends Birthday so that's what leads the day.

We'll be married 6 months in a few days.

 

I took her downtown Saturday night and we got a room at the Renaissance on State and Wacker. We went with one other couple. My friend works for marriott so he got me the hook up. We ate at Smith and Wollensky....then went to The Redhead Piano bar...I had never been there....it was a good time...but we were seated in the back so we couldnt see much.

 

Our original plans consisted of just staying in, but then friday morning my buddy called and said he could get me the employee rate downtown....so I told her I was taking her out and thats all she needed to know...the rest was a surprise.

 

As for gifts...I got her this sweatsuit thingie from NY&C and some perfume from victorias secret. Had Roses delivered to her work today. Used the ESPN deal on Proflowers.com.

 

I don't really mind the "day" itself that much. I know she doesn't really expect anytyhing....like I said, originally, we were just staying in and she was gonna cook me dinner....but it's nice to make the person you love smile with a lil surprise.

 

She made me smile with my gift....A SOX JERSEY.

This day rules. I love cruising Green St. on campus watching all the depressed single people getting more hammered than Christ on the cross while watching the guys trying way to hard to get into their girlfriend's pants by being way too cliche regarding the holiday as being "really important".

 

Its just another arbitrary day of crass commercialism and consumerism on which people are supposed to again buy into the mantra of "buying = loving". And no, I'm not a bitter romantic, I'm actually of the mind that romance etc. is based more on being spontaneous, surprising and unique instead of having a prescribed day on which its almost forced to do such things. Telling people you care about them should be any day instead of this one day thing without having to buy s*** to show affection /big fan of homemade dinners, haha

 

And also, since its really a Catholic saint day, shouldn't we more accurately reflect the intentions of the Catholic Church and celebrate it with 8 year old boys?

His point, which I agree with, is that this is a hallmark holiday and that rather than going out of your way to do something nice for your significant other (wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend) just on this day, it should be an everyday occurence. I couldn't agree more.

 

Any girl I've ever dated has always appreciated flowers a lot more when I gave them to her on a random occasion than on Valentine's Day when they expect them.

EXACTLY......and there are people like that. Some people get downright angry about V day. To me, that's silly. It's like who are you making a point to and is it THAT serious?

Well, actually it's another grand pagan holiday that, like Christmas and Easter, was co-opted and Christianized by the early church. If you can't stop those damn pagans from celebrating, then maybe you can at least subvert the nominal basis of the celebration, right?

 

In the case of V-Day, it is the co-opted Roman Feast of Lupercalia, which was a fertility celebration and feast in honor of Lupercal (= Lubercus = Juno). The Feast proper was actually on February 15th, but the church moved it up one day to coincide with a date when apparently not one but THREE separate Christian Valentines (or Valintinus) were martyred. What are the odds?

I got the worlds greatest excuse for not spending money today. I got a tax class tonight

 

In general I don't see why one day needs to be more special then others, but if it makes her happy I'll live with it.
